AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

Ah the elusive 3800X, here's hoping it can materialise and then hit its advertised clocks. There's got to be some reason for its absence, maybe a new bios or some reworking of something. Getting to 4.5/4.6ghz for Zen 2 is proving much harder than I expected. I was expecting a lot more in clockspeed but pleasantly surprised by IPC uplift.

There's no 3600 c16 shown. Also a bit miss leading. A 3600x on fast ram will easily match a 3700x on average ram.

Not really misleading is it, it's a set of benchmark results.

If anyone feels like it's worth paying literally double for something like 2% better performance then go for it.

3000 16CL being 1.9% slower than 3200 14CL says it all for me.

Crikey - might be the reason for the Ryzen 7 3800X then?? Leakier part which can get closer to 4.5GHZ,and that would be another 10% extra performance there?

It was 48FPS against 53FPS,so I think the Ryzen 7 3800X might make up the difference possibly. But Intel is only 10% ahead with 800MHZ more clockspeed, and probably a ton of power consumed. The OP estimated it the Ryzen 7 3700X was half the power consumption of the Core i9 9900K.
If I was buying today I'd get the 3900X or pending benchmarks the 3800X because the 9900k's advantage is very small. I think the extra cache on the 3900X would help a little but either way I'll be waiting another year by which time hopefully AMD have a commanding lead or at least have sorted any teething troubles.

AMD might be replacing Zen2 with Zen3 on 7NM EUV next year,so there might be additional IPC and clockspeed improvements there.

My 3700x arrived yesterday to replace the old 2500k
So for those in the same position...

Huge performance increase noted in games so far (I mainly play ring of Elysium and have seen frames go from 100-140 to 180-220 on a vega 64)
Not tried much else yet
Benching so far at stock on stock cooler shows mid 80s temps and max boosts 4350 using MSI 570-a pro using aida64

And don’t be a noob like me and fail to consider psu connections have moved on (8 + 4 pin cpu power needed on my board). I ended up rushing out for a new PSU pushing the budget up

Also can’t believe how quiet it is compared to the custom loop I had on the 2500k plus I replaced all mechanical drives also

Also bought a Corsair 400c case which I am very impressed with

to play 4k 2080 ti, ryzen 3700x / 3800x or i9 9900k?
For gaming only, none of these! The 9700K is within 1% of the 9900K, still beats the 3900X and is over £100 less than either. However, if you also do productivity stuff then the 3900X is the best choice. The 3700X/3800X cost slightly less/more than the 9700K but perform worse in gaming.

This ryzen kills my patience. amd as always with cpu, not prepared for sales. Date is more important than happy customer

I my self have a had a few problems with my 3900X and msi Meg ace mobo but not as many as my first 1600x ryZen 1st gen. memory has worked out of the box and the cpu runs well as well had problems with msi dragon center keeping cpu at 3.8ghz and with dragon center my stock temps are nearly as high as my all boost temps. And being able to monitor the temps and voltage is kinda screwed atm.

But 4.3ghz at 1.25v I’m happy with my overclock and I think the launch has gone tbh competed to intel 9900k I think this launch is a lot better at least we can buy them atm lol
