AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

I'm excited at the idea of a dual chiplet CPU to replace my 5820k, especially if the leaked 3700x with a 5.0GHz boost becomes a reality.

Having watched the stream and seen the physical CPU layout I would be inclined to think that it was an 8C/16T thread they were demoing, I suspect they wan't to save the higher core count reveal for a later date to stop them eating into potential threadripper sales.

Could you elaborate on that as i am confused as to how you have come up with this conclusion.

I have a nice 1080ti, i dont stroke it ... thats a bit odd but i am happy it still can go toe to toe with Nvidias latest top end cards... the 2080 which is very expensive and lacks the ram...ohh and doesnt seem to be too stable but hey.
Now i do get the .. vega 2 is a bit meh type part, but lets be honest here - a well priced 16Gb 1080ti/2080 competitor.. maybe even a smidge faster (perhaps) is not... crap. if it is crap then so are the 1080ti and the 2080.. and the ultra expensive 2080ti which is not a massive amount faster than all three of then is also not what i would call a slam dunk either.

As for the 9900k being faster than zen2... i watched the stream, i presume it was the same one you did. i did not see any 9900k being faster rubbish.
Do you mean your 9900k is faster at boiling water than that demo'd zen 2? well it prob is, its prob faster at melting titanium as well..
I did not see a 9900k being faster at cinebench which was the stated demo.

Now you might mean, ohh my 9900k is faster because i have clocked the snot out of it... ok i get it. but then your also up against what is more than likely a lower clocked ES mid range chip on an pre production bios ect... ohh and of course your using the same amount of power as a million "marital aids" on full blast to do it.

I however see a lot of clutching at straws from some regulars.. which never surprises me.

A million marital aids you say?

It's about time power draw was measured in this way! :D

But of course then CES would probably ban CPU power consumption figures...

I'm with you on this. People getting hyped for performance we already have.
When its faster we will have something to talk about. Until then AMD are still playing catch up.

AMD can beat Intel's top dog with half a chip and an ES sample at that.

I'm impressed and looking forward to release. 9900k sales aren't going to be too healthy on the back of those figures.

I actually think the 8c/16t chips will come in around $200-$250.. AMD want to make some money too. As said earlier, AMD are not the budget brand anymore.

The final clock speeds/performance will dictate the price, i just cant see the 12c part going for $330 as seen in the leaks. Most likely $349-$399.

I'll still grab the 3700X though :)

Thats what im thinking, which is a shame as I was hoping for at least a April release :(

Unless of course they spread out the release of the chips throughout the year, releasing some in April, and some later on

They won't. Stated mid 2019 so I doubt anything will come to market before June :)

I wanted my 9900k destroyed along with my 1080ti....

Maybe. Then again why show all your cards at once and give your rival a chance when you can slowly beat him down and inflict maximum damage over a longer period of time.
I think you are exactly right, which is also why charging sensible (read low) prices also makes great sense. Shareholders might squeal at short term profits being left on the table, but longer term they'll get much much more back in return. It's actually about time that a company thought more long term instead of the quarterly profit-fudged figures.

Yeah i know what you mean, i'm just erring on the side of caution with the way the GPU reveal has gone.

I do hope it's their mid tier product, it's great for everyone if AMD dominated high end too because of the pressure that it would put on Intel :)

I am sure I read over at Hexus that these cpu's are coming with PCI-e 4.0, is this right? If so does that mean that these cpu's won't work with current boards or will it be like the Sandybridge/Ivybridge overlap? I thought they may have waited for DDR5 to come out (next year?) to launch PCI-e 4.0. Are there even any gpu's coming out this year that will make use of it?

Yes you said that to me some time ago,

Well with this unknown 8 core 16 thread ryzen (zen 2 ) processor is on par with a 9900k, so yea that the very least amd with this zen 2 has caught up with intel more so, yeah.

Now we can expect them being like the same with the performance which is a good thing and as well as being good for the consumer because amd here with this unknown ryzen zen 2 processor at 8c/16t seems to have raised the bar at the least?

Dan.

At what clock speed?

You missed that bit out...half a chip? It was 8 core 16 thread

What ?

You’re impressed with a chip you don’t know what speeds it’s running, what’s it’s cost is barely beating a stock 9900k in Cinebench ?

Sorry you’ll have to spell it out....

Well we would know what a 9900k actually scores in cinebench at stock clocks.

I thought it was a great move to also state that EPYC users can just drop in the latest gen CPU, going to make upgrading the datacentre a hell of lot easier, double your processing power with a CPU upgrade, complete a BIOS update, power down the tray and replace the chip, power back up, job done :D

EDIT: actually I really enjoyed the EPYC segment :)
