AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

AMD cannot do miracles... well they can (Zen, Athon, x64 and various great video cards) but they cannot just magic stuff up nowadays. When AMD are pushed they muck up (look at the V7 launch lol), they have had little money for a long while now after being stiffed all those years back, its not easy for them.
Then again when nvidia cocks up they do it with some style... recent space invaders on broken cards, earlier... memory size whoopsies, cards that caught fire ahem.... they do it as well.

As for Intel well when they go full retard... its spectacular. I dont know where to begin with them.

Where did you hear this? And no, the only timeframe ever uttered by AMD was "mid 2019" for Ryzen at the end of the keynote. Any discussion about March/April launch has been purely based on the announcement and release dates of the previous 2 generations.

But if AMD really are going to take this long to get EPYC Rome and Ryzen 3 out then it's almost an own goal. True that Intel don't have anything new coming, but in the middle of their "shortages" and the 9 series still costing silly money at RRP, this is a golden opportunity to put the boot it and make a big grab for marketshare.

I hope you're wrong.
Oh I'm just being pessimistic :p

But if an AMD employee said, "It's too early to talk about Zen 2 in March"... well, that to me means it's months away, even months away from March!

Probably Q3 I would imagine. Q4 would be ridiculous and hugely disappointing. But atm I can't see them getting it out by Q2. Just don't have the faith in them to do it.

What's the big deal about a Q3 release? The 2 series released in April last year so it's just over a year between them. Intel don't launch every 6 months, why should AMD?

AMD will be better when they payback the debt. I haven't seen recent reports about when they will be debt-free. Must be sometime this year.
Also, if 7nm process causes problems, AMD can't do a lot, even if some of the issues depend on their decisions to be solved.

AMD have stated mid 2019.. just cause one guy says 'its too early to talk about' doesnt mean there are issues or delays. They are just the words he chose when saying he didnt wana talk about it.

Lets just wait and see what happens mid 2019, then start complaining if theres no Zen release.

AMD's 50 year anniversary in April-May would be likely time for AMD to show more of their cardsCPUs.

This time AMD might have put little too much priority for Rome hindering schedule of desktop side.
Though to be truthfull it's that server business where bigger profit margins are and from where AMD could fast pull major increase to money available for future R&D.
Hence some neglect for desktop, just like GPUs were sidelined for developing Zen.

They've got no ability to maintain momentum.
Can't exactly claim Intel having had much other than sitting on their big fat arse momentum in long time.
Stopping to four cores as high end and two cores in market PCs for decade to halt advance of game development...
Mostly very incremental updates...
And now no architectural update since 2016.
Also with not much of bang per buck increase with greedy pricing as answer to competition.

True, but if that is the case then it's an unnecessary delay (from this idiot's perspective anyway). Now we've seen Ryzen 3 utilise an I/O die just like EPYC Rome, it's logical that server and desktop manufacturing is done at the same time. GloFo do the I/O dies, TSMC make a boat load of chiplets, AMD bin those chiplets and distribute to all of the EPYC and Ryzen SKUs. We've discussed here a few times how EPYC doesn't automatically require the "best" silicon, because what constitutes the "best" depends on the intended purpose, and as a result stocks for both server and desktop can be built up simultaneously this time, rather than prioritising server over desktop.

So if indeed there is a big delay which pushes Ryzen past June then it could be TSMC's chiplet yields aren't as good as previously hinted at.

Or the absolute opposite - if the performance is strong enough they could be looking to build up enough stock. If they continue to take share from Intel they are going to need to have some serious manufacturing capacity.

It is very possible that they are not so happy about the performance and need time to revise the dies..... And to get more manufacturing allocation for the vast demand coming after the release.

Should just start getting them out IMO even if it means a supply shortage. AMD are in a good position, I don't think they should or will delay the launch if they have stock available that could be sold.
I'd never dismiss Intel. If they're anywhere near a launch when Ryzen 3000 arrives you can be sure they'll try to spoil the party somehow, even if it's just hinting at what their own next CPU's might bring. I'm sure AMD will bring the 3000 series to market as soon as they can.

Let's see what May 1st brings. That's the 50th anniversary. I sincerely hope AMD don't announce something big (like that 16-core 3850X) for the anniversary but then don't actually delivery anything for another 3-6 months; I know full well I'm going Ryzen 3000 for my next couple of systems so I'm happy to wait and save up, but I fear there's a lot of momentum to be lost with fence sitters and those looking to upgrade right now if nothing lands in June/July.

Lisa Sue isn't stupid. If they get delayed, there will be a very good reason.

That last year made engineering sample matching 9900K at lot lower power consumption hints good for clocks and performance.
Unlike current GloFo made chips which just don't clock high.

It might be getting X570 motherboards ready which is causing some hold up.

Though Asrock is apparently getting ready:

Hope they just don't user that assthetic plastic garbage to sabotage VRM cooling...

People are impatient.
I'm using a 2500k ;) Not exactly your poster child for impatience, lol.

Most of us want AMD to release a great product and really become resurgent as a force in CPUs (and GPUs).

That wouldn't stop us being disappointed if the release was closer to Q4 than Q2. They have a great opportunity to make waves (we think) with Zen 2, but they could snatch defeat from the jaws of victory - we've all seen AMD do this before.

obviously amd are going to release 3000 series Threadripper and I think i will wait for those but I cant seem to find what those boards will be called, X499?

what chipset will they use? sorry not kept up with the discussion for a while.
