AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

I would wait until the reviews filter through on the boards,ie,make sure the VRMs and cooling looks fine. I am more vary of motherboard companies now,as they tend to push aesthetics over functionality which is self defeating IMHO.
No time for such pleasantries. I'm ordering day 1. This upgrade itch is at peak intensity. Agree on VRMS. (especially if best rumours to be taken as true there is a 5Ghz 16 core part!!). We shall see. I'll buy something upper mid-range / lower top end anyway so "should" be OK.

I would be vary with rushing boards with Ryzen(although the 400 series launch was much better than the 300 series launch TBF) - there should be leaks before the launch anyway, and I expect Buildzoid and others might have a gander.

Since I am running a mini-ITX system,as long as I can get a 65W TDP 8C/16T Ryzen 2 CPU with a good performance bump over my Ryzen 5 2600 I should be happy.

Disappointing if true as the owner of an MSI X370, I won't cry too much of a river though as I only paid £140 for it including an R7 1700 on our members market. I was however planning on putting the money saved into a new 3rd generation chip.

I might have to buy an new board to go with it but it won't be MSI if this is their policy.

You could sell the board/chip to fund it. Annoying to take it apart though

Whilst I agree with the aesthetics over functionality is becoming worrisome, and frankly annoying. VRMs are not anything i've had a problem with Ryzen builds. Though I have always chosen X370 and X470 boards. The CH6 VRMs are insanely good.

For those that cant be bothered to watch the video..

Bear in mind none of this came officially from MSI yet. As I understand it it was the response to a question but first line tech support. Notorious for being clueless ;) Probably a minimum wage agency person in a hurry to close his calls and hit targets.

It has come to our attention that MSI Customer Support has regrettably misinformed an MSI customer with regards to potential support for next-gen AMD CPUs on the MSI X370 XPOWER GAMING TITANIUM motherboard. Through this statement we want clarify the current situation.

At this point, we are still performing extensive testing on our existing lineup of 300- and 400-series AM4 motherboards to verify potential compatibility for the next-gen AMD Ryzen CPUs. To be clear: Our intention is to offer maximum compatibility for as many MSI products as possible. Towards the launch of the next-gen AMD CPUs, we will release a compatibility list of MSI AM4 motherboards. Below is a full list of upcoming BIOS versions which include compatibility for the next-gen AMD APUs for our 300-Series and 400-Series AM4 motherboards based on the latest AMD Combo PI version 1.0.0.0. These BIOS versions are expected to be released in May this year.

Lol!
Using both Asus CH boards and Asrock Taichi I get lovely cool VRMs. Helps that I've found both only ever need one step of LLC I suppose.

My CH6 dosn't and never has needed any CPU LLC. That's for the 1700 i had and my current 2700x. Like yours, my VRM's have always been cool. The hottest i have seen them was around 54c last summer when the ambient temp was in the mid 20c.

A series chipsets won't support 12 and 16 core SKUs
Only X370 boards with the a 16x slot in the first position will get PCIe 4 on it IF they choose to implement PCIe 4 at all.

That's where we'll go I reckon.

I would very much like a minimum of 12 core if costs are within reason. It is getting more likely I will just donate my 1600 system to my daughter and I will get something new entirely. Tax returns gave a big hit to me this year with previously working 2 jobs (1 self employed, 1 FT professional), so will have to be a reasonable build unless the new job gives me an unexpected bonus anytime soon.

Am excited for what the release GHz will be for them

Something has to hit 5GHz in some fashion, otherwise the ill-informed and misguided will automatically cry at it being another failure.
Hasn't AMD already promised "outstanding gaming performance"? So anything less and people are obviously gonna be upset, though saying something like that can mean equal the competition or above, it's not so clear yet.
