The 12 and upcoming 16 core seem great if more cores is your jam.

Intel peeps can't drop a 12 or 16 core chip into their existing board. PCIe 4 won't make a difference for most until there is a major change GPU tech, ray tracing might be it one day, not this year or the next, or the one after probably.

If you go intel then i'd assume you dont need pcie4 and anxy about security flaws.
The R3, afaik, will perform same on X470 that is cheaper. I plan to use my X470 Prime for the 12 core and wait for the X590.

I'd just be slightly concerned with clock speeds on the 9900k.

You can blame the 9900KS for this - what Intel is now actively doing is testing and binning all the high quality chips to be sold as the 9900KS.
So if you buy a 9900k, try to get one that didn't come from Intel recently, otherwise what you'll find is the quality of 9900k chips will start going down now because of the binning.

Of course none of this matters if you aren't going to overclock

Based on my understanding of pcie bandwidth and how GPU's are affected by it - the bandwidth requirements go up with framerate. What this means is a 2080ti with ray tracing turned on doing 50fps should need less pcie bandwidth than a 2080ti with ray tracing turned off doing 100fps

I currently favour the Auros PRO, given the Intel version is £160, even £250 ($250) is a stretch.

WCCFtech translated the prices from Danish Krone, including VAT.
That they picked Danish prices shows ignorance, as everything there is more expensive than in UK and most EU.
Hell we used to smuggle PS4s to Denmark few years back, because they were almost half the price in UK compared to there. Plenty of orders to fullfil to our colleagues in Esbjerg and Copenhagen
Ofc the benefits of the EU..... None asked why there were 20 PS4s in each car

No is not more expensive. There are cheap X570 boards, and you could still use X470s and B450s without losing performance.

Someone could say the same thing for Intel mainstream also.

As always had some ridiculous priced boards especially with Z170 and Z270.... yet the best of them was the Asrock Z170 Formula OC for £180.

Also you make a decision atm, from WCCFtech article on a Danish retailer....
We know that there are good boards, mATX also like the Asrock Pro 4 at $175ish, with B550 boards coming also later in the year.

If ignore those prices tbh, if you wanted to see something semi realistic there is an Italian retailer with all of them up for pre-order, as an example the 3600 is €229.08 inc. 22% VAT which is about £202 here, or £195 with the VAT adjusted.

Why would any of these prices be indicative of UK prices? We know the SRP of the CPUs and those are way higher than SRP. If they are that expensive in the UK I won't be buying at all, and I would hope no-one else does either. No reason for it except retailer profits.

WCCFTech is stupid to say the least, and you extrapolated removing the price in DKK.
The 3900X is 4599 DKK, with 25% VAT, or 3679 DKK without VAT, that means £438. Add 20% UK vat and price is £525. With MSRP $499 which usually translates to £499.
Also Denmark has additional taxes except VAT and usually everything there is 10% more expensive than UK. Electronics even more so, many times double the price.

Two years ago you could buy a 5 1600 configuration for 514$ and i7-7800X configuration for 1020$, but people still preferred the more expensive one.
