Interesting- according to those results the 3600 is still well behind the 9600k in single thread workloads but beats it in multithread workloads handsomely
 
I dont know what to say if people are pumping 240W or even 180W through their cpu. Thats just insane.

There is o/c for record breaking which makes that ok but for day to day usage I consider that crazy.

Daisy chain needs removing from the industry in my view :( At the very least if a board is daisy chain it needs to be declared on official spec page.

Just have all 4 slot boards as t-topology, and dual slot for those trying to break records.

The problem I have with sites like this and others such as Geekbench and PassMark, is that they lumber stock results in with overclocked results, which highly skews numbers. That's most likely what is happening with that 9600K comparison.
 
Yes but as I posted a few pages back the 8600K (not even mentioning the 9900K) beats it single core. I really hope something is off with these results as the 3800X was going to be my first big upgrade in years.

whats your current spec?

also what was the clock speed of the 8600k that beat it?

I agree they need to differentiate, they have average and peak which kind of does this but I dont think average excludes o/c results.

At the same time tho its clearly a key advantage of intel K chips that they manually o/c well, a stock ryzen X chip is pretty much maxed out in manufacturing config, XFR is very hard to beat manually, a stock intel K chip on the other hand is gimped, its stupid to run a K chip at stock.

userbench probably should have stock(min), average and peak.

individual geekbench results are ok as they do show the clock speeds of the chip in the test. So you should know if its o/c or not.
 
Seeing the announced prices I am sticking with my original intention of 3900x it is absolutely overkill for what I need but frankly, This is a heart over head decision :D

I'll pick it up at release then hold off for ITX motherboard reviews, although I feel fairly settled on the Gigabyte right now :)
 
Why upgrade an 8700k unless you really need a lot more multithreaded performance, single core performance will be in the same ball park if you have an OC on the chip.

The whole 'old tech', 'security' is no real risk to a home user and mostly pitch fork mentality.

When the IT department of the blue chip company I work for with a 20bn+ research program start turning hyper threading off it may be time to think again.

Right now they are handing out shiny I7 laptops like candy with affected chips onboard.


I've decided to stay on my 8700k. I'm still going mini itx, but will just buy a itx board and new case and call it a day. Going full blown AMD Ryzen 3000 would have been too costly. Looked into it more last night and I'll be saving £500+ and atm I just can't afford another £500.
 
And that’s only short peaks - mostly benchmarks or stress test you would see that.

Most video games you won’t see more than see 100w on a 5ghz 9900k

T topology is worse than daisy chain with 2 dimms and you can already do 32GB with 2 dimms so not needed by most people.

I've also only seen T on higher end boards as it requires more complex routing and I suspect more layers.

8pack said all x570 boards he tried would do 3733 @ 16x2 or 8x4 with the right memory.

Well We'll have to see if going beyond that is worth the IF speed penalty
