AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

For the ones getting the 3900X, is it because you need all 12 cores, or because you can afford it and you just want the "best"? I ask because I want to get the 3900X but I might settle for the 3800X since I don't think I am ever going to need all 12 cores unless games start using them some time soon.

For me it's because I expect a slightly higher quality bin on the chiplets used for the 3900X over the 3800X, plus it's guaranteed to a higher clock so that helps too. I will wait on reviews however and if the 3800X clocks as well then I may change my mind.

It is for the same reason I want the 3800X and not the 3700X, I expected the chiplet to be of higher quality which in my opinion it should be.

Im getting 3900x over 3800x mainly because I want more cores "Just because". I want more cores than consoles. I am under no illusion that the 3800X will game just as well. I just want extra cores.
As for the 3950X, reason I am not getting that is it's really a lot more money for cores I just wont use. Also overclocking the living daylights out of the 3950x would require a very expensive motherboard and probably new PSU. So thats out of the window. I may yet still go 3800X. we shall see.

I understand, hopefully reviewers and famous Youtubers get samples before the 7th so we can make a more informed decision on release.

Why worry about having the same amount of cores than console. It’s not as if it’s the same cpu. The console versions will be nerfed compared to the full fat desktop cpu’s.

I wouldnt if I were you. You get 100mhz higher boost for 30 watt tdp more which to me sounds like less effecient dies. That said, could still be a solid overclocker, time will tell.

Just a quick comparison from browsing the database.

Been set on the top, as it turns out 3950X, CPU for months but I'm coming around to your way of thinking too. As long as the 3900X performs as well as we're all expecting it should get me decent enough performance boost on my existing X470.

But no, household dust will not cause your PC to catch fire. Overheat and make noise, yes.
you can't make that claim without knowing the make up of the dust particles in the house. one would need to be extremely unlucky for normal household dust to cause a fire but it's not impossible.
And something must ignite it the first place.
not quite true. yea, dust particles in the home are very highly unlikey to self-ignite but self-ignition of dust particles is a thing.

that said - i doubt a dusty pc would be the cause of a fire (or extremely unlucky if it was) or there be fires up and down the length of the country.....you only have to look at the internals of the average office pc over a year old to see some utter mingng gunk build up
