AMD Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) - *** NO COMPETITOR HINTING ***

I'll give it a shot :)

On a more relevant and technical note, as you can see in my sig I'm currently running my 1600 at an all core 3.8Ghz, but I think with the new 3000 cpu (whichever I decide to get) I may well let XFR and PBO do their thing as its mostly gaming I do anyway. So no need really for more than a couple of cores maxing at once I suspect.

Given that I'm planning to hang onto my Gigabyte Gaming 5 X370 board, which has been solid as a rock, am I still likely to get the majority of those XFR/PBO benefits on such an old board? I keep reading conflicting reports about XFR working but possibly not PBO, or it is but not as good etc. As anything official been mentioned on this or is it still all speculation?

Are you on the latest BIOS etc?

Not yet but I fully intend to be in readiness for dropping the new CPU in, the new Ryzen 3000 bios updates have been released and are available on the gigabyte support site.

I dont tend to update the bios unless I have an issue and as my 1600 has been ticking along nicely for a good while I didnt want to tempt fate until i had to :)

Asus latest BIOS for Zen 2 was in May 2019, should I trust that one or should they be releasing a new one?

I'm going to wait a few weeks after release to let everything settle down before I buy, by then you may well see BIOS updates with some fixes in. Either way I wouldnt update until just before I needed to personally..

Should be fine, however from what I have seen when gaming (not an exhaustive or scientific test) my 2700X is generally locked at all core (4.1 ish) in games and the boost is almost irrelevant.

I don't understand how a gamer (plenty on this forum) can order on release day without seeing reviews? We don't know if the 3800x or 3900x is best in gaming? which has lowest latency? which overclocks higher? Is the 3800 faster than the 3900x even (overclocked)?? We just don't know yet. So any "gamers" buying on day 1 I find a bit mental. Just give it 48 hours at least to see the real data,

Personally I wont be rushing to buy however given what we have seen with Zen 1 and Zen +, given the leaks, these processors look great, I cant see anyone being particularly disappointed with a Day 1 purchase.

I doubt there is games at the moment that run more than 8 cores since most use 4 now. 3900X in my opinion is more oriented for people that need the cores for work, editing, etc. But of course some people just want to have the best hardware, and can simply afford it. I can buy the 3900X if I want but I really don't think I am ever going to use more than the 8 cores the 3800X has, so I wont see real benefit spending that extra cash.

those with defined budgets maybe. if someones max budget is say a 3700x or 3600(x) then waiting for reviews of 3800x or 3900x is pointless. but i'm just guessing/speculating, i'm sure there's plenty just click buy on preorders because they are impatient. i imagine buyers remorse can be high with early adopters :p

Tested more on 3600x with B450... Its working fine with all core OC and 3200mhz RAM C14... The efficiency is defo off though...... Especially at stock as PBO is not as advanced on older chipsets...

With OC efficiency is closer but still down... Seems like the vendors built the Bios on old Agesa code as results with OC are comparable to X570 of a good while ago..... So to get B450 to X570 perf you need to OC first, then rely on MB vendors having spare resources to adopt and validate latest Agesa tuning. Which believe me is being updated very often right now and gaining each time...
Do you know which AGESA version is in the B450 BIOS you're using? Would be interested to know if it's Combo-PI 1.0.0.1/1.0.0.2 or one of the older beta ones.

I just posted new bioses from yesterday but not out for Crosshair yet....
It does say new CPUs (or something similar) but in my opinion would seem a little "old" since CPUs are coming out in July, so I am a little worried.

Edit: Update AM4 ComboPI 0.0.7.2A for next-gen processors and to improve CPU compatibility

I am going to check for latest version until the day I get the CPU and give it a go I guess.

I can say in my 26 years of consumer component purchases, RRP 1USD = £1 sterling incl VAT.

Irrespective of exchange rate peregrinations. This is not always absolute but reasons like smaller marketplace, longer or more expensive shipping are forever quoted. So I generally take this to be a fact and plan for it.

After Elmor left Asus support for Crosshair motherboards went to ****...

Thats why on Crosshair VII we got PBO override with levels from 1 to 4
