AMD Zen 3 (Ryzen 4000) already in the works

We will see. They can design a quad-core with 4 threads per core, and market it as 16-processor CPU...

I can’t see amd making that mistake again and calling a quad core 4 thread a 16 core cpu.

look at ryzen atm they have followed the traditional path with cores and threads

They have made mistakes with Ryzen 9 3900X and Ryzen 9 3950X, marketing them with higher clocks than technically available.

sorry but the amd hate speech yet again!

here is the point I only said I doubt amd would call a quad core 16 thread cpu a 16 core cpu not that amd don’t bend the truth! all companies bend the truth as much as they can but to come out with out right lie that’s a different matter!

I own a 3900x the one you are using for your hate speech and since the abba bios update my cpu boosts to 4.6ghz well acctully 4.575 MHz but that’s technically close enough when u take into other factors

I posted this yesterday so don't listen to him. He only owns a laptop - 2500U. The hate is from being unable to afford

The hate is actually in you. At least, try to understand what I'm saying.
AMD can't hit the clocks on the quantities of chiplets they initially wanted to. Hence, you have quite limited supply.

Just stop with this trolling against me already!

This is no hate :) ok let’s see your point amd can’t make enough 4.7ghz chips for the new 3950x great they push back the launch we’re is the problem? It’s amd product to launch or not to launch why is it a problem for you ?

now to the main point you used that amd can’t make enough cpu’s For 3950x to prove that amd would lie about calling 4 core 16 thread cpu a 16 core cpu that’s what this page on the thread is all about you saying that amd would lie

that'a a bit of a dick thing to say fella and could easily be construed as a personal insult by a mod - which is against the rules. yea, 4K8KW10 posts some utter guff but there's no need to be a complete bell towards him. if his nonsense winds you up that much just put him on ignore. personally i think it's pretty funny, his postings are a source of great mirth :D

Right, then I read your sig.

I am looking forward to the 16 core Ryzens. I now have a 3600 and a aurous pro x570 and am finding the performance awesome. However I just bought that mobo with OC a 16 core in mind but I will wait for the 4th gen Ryzen. Also my daughter has a OC 1700 and she could use a 16 core and as I will probably be paying then I will probably upgrade in a year or so to two 4950's. If I can have SMT4 then that's gravy.

regarding the supposedly "mistake" by AMD about the clock speeds they are quoted as the maximum. Maximum = should mean maximum not what everyone is likely to get with various set-ups. If you look at Der Bau8er's data then then some of the cpu's actually exceed the maximum.

I see it differently myself maximum on the box is what I would get not a avarage across the board. I buy a cpu (I own a 3900x) expecting to see as close to 4.6ghz at times on my cpu. I don’t buy it so I can see other forum members hit it or my friends but not on mine! The advatiaing is for the product you buy personally I see 4.6ghz or 12 cores etc on the box I expect to see it on my pc.

also same with most products the flagship product in this case the 3900x was the biggest under performers and will take the headlines from the others and the poll looked very bad for the flagship product and that isn’t good enough then.

now the abba bios has really helped me out and I’m regularly seeing above 4.5ghz when I’ve been recording it it’s hit max of 4.575 in hwinfo which is close enough with fsb and other things taken into account. But still took amd long enough to give me what was on the box. And I hope amd learn from this though and make changes in the future

I get your point.

However regarding the word maximum, I believe that the definition of this is the top most figure possible - the upper possible limit. If we are saying that everyone should be able to achieve 4.6 ghz briefly, and from der bau8ers poll where some people achieved more what word do we use in that case (for something above the maximum)?

Looking at AMD's website regarding the 4.6 ghz Max Boost Clock, it says "Max boost for AMD Ryzen processors is the maximum frequency achievable by a single core on the processor running a bursty single-threaded workload. Max boost will vary based on several factors, including, but not limited to: thermal paste; system cooling; motherboard design and BIOS; the latest AMD chipset driver; and the latest OS updates."
Generally I still read it as the maximum that it could achieve under the best conditions - ie. meaning that it is the upper limit under the best conditions but doesn't mean that everyone will be able to achieve this as it is the maximum.

Perhaps it needs wording differently so that we can all understand the same thing. It doesn't help when Intel, Nvidea and AMD have slightly different specs and definitions.
