*** AMD "Zen 4" thread (inc AM5/APU discussion) ***

If going DDR5 now you need to spend almost £300 to get 32gb of anything decent vs half that for a decent set of b-die. The performance difference between either is negligible while the B-die will likely hold its value more for resale compared to today's top DDR5.
Most people have cheapo DDR4 and even high end ddr4 is around 11 percent slower in games (min FPS), comparing the i9 12900K with DDR4 and DDR5:

Also, not true about the pricing, DDR5 5600 32GB kits are priced around £170-£180. With DDR5, you don't need to buy low CAS latency RAM, you get more performance from the bandwidth per second (MT/s).

For a new platform intended to last 4-5 years, there's not much point limiting it to DDR4.

I can see DDR5 32gb 6000 CL32 available for £233, I would be planning on keeping the system for 2-4 years and some games already can start seeing the difference

So you'd spend the best part of getting on for 1k to upgrade from the system you currently have which is already very good to gain a couple of fps at 1080p?

5900X to 7700X is around a 25 percent increase in minimum framerate, according to the techspot review.

It's true that you can turn the resolution up, but all that does is create more of a GPU bottleneck.

Not saying I would upgrade in that case, but still a significant performance improvement.

nope keeping my current system for good while yet dont see the point pretty much everything I play is 100+fps at 1440p and if anything I'd get bigger uplift with future GPU upgrade

that really isnt enough when the min fps is already high

Yup, but there's a similar performance improvement in CPU intensive games also.

approx 29 percent in Cyberpunk.

Nice gain in Spiderman too, and WD: Legion.

Personally, I'm happy with 60-70 FPS lol

Someone should test the 7700X in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, that game engine is pretty crap, and cpu intensive

Obviously we don't know how much boards from other companies will cost. ASRock is likely to offer some cheap (but not necessarily good) boards. I wonder if there will be boards with no wifi?
yeah they nearly all seem to come with wifi! altho wifi is probably cheap to add these days so doubt much added to the price

ive been out of the game a long time and maybe i am just having a flashback, but 300 quid for 32gb of ram does not seem expensive to me - granted, ddr4 is cheaper, but it is the newer tech and newer stuff almost always is more expensive... it's just the mobo prices i think are a bit crazy.

Both seem expensive to me especially when you get both 32gb of ram and a motherboard for £200 then drop a 5800X3D for literally the same performance as Zen 4 will give.

and I bet ingame I wouldnt notice the difference :), I have spiderman with 3080 maxed out with Maxed RT+DLSS quality 1440p and its 80-100+fps

The 5800X and 5900X minimum framerate is freaking dog #### in Assassin's Creed Odyssey (1080p), reviews never test the most challenging games if they're considered 'too old'!

Link:

40 and 47 min FPS, respectively.
