*** AMD "Zen 4" thread (inc AM5/APU discussion) ***

wikipedia says on the AM5 page, that the release date for the B650 boards is 10/10/2022. Is it safe to assume that date is correct?
The prices popped up on videocardz, still very expensive. The first boards have been dropped shipped so they are around 20% overpriced. I can imagine it will be q1 2023 before you see this magic $125 motherboard AMD talked about lol.

I like how when I pointed out how ridiculous that Intel chart looks (with the 5800X3D, which many reviewers later pointed out), there were cries of protest from Intel Fanboys, even on this thread

Ideally, there would be a 7700 (non x, costing about £50 less) to launch with the B650 boards, which still haven't had their release date confirmed. I don't really agree with the point of view that the 5800X3D is an attractive offer at it's current pricing (maybe if no VAT is paid), who wants to spend £400+ on a last gen CPU?

The reviewer is right to say Zen 3 prices stayed high for a long time, so people should know what to expect.

I disagree with the strategy of releasing the cheaper non X models many months later, I think AMD must be facing production issues with Zen 4 CPUs.

As some have suggested, it looks like there isn't any benefit to running DDR5 @ 7200 MT/s on Zen 4 CPUs:

The tester is using a Ryzen 7600X.

The higher RAM transfer rate does not make up for the limitation of the memory controller running at a lower speed, at least in terms of the minimum framerate in most of the games tested.

So, you would probably need to use modules capable of around 8000 MT/s to overcome the latency penalty (estimate). I'd say definitely not worth it.

Therefore, most people should not run their RAM at speeds higher than 6600 MT/s, which appears to be the maximum supported speed on X670 motherboards.

5900X is a massive upgrade compared to my 1700 and I don't have to spend extra on a new mobo and ram that I don't need. If I was purely into gaming the X3D would be an attractive upgrade for me.

I would have actually upgraded to AM5 but the cost to entry is unjustifiable especially considering we are looking at a global recession
Do you need to upgrade though? e.g. to get decent framerates in games. If not, why worry about it?

Lots of people have capable Zen 3 CPUs, that ought to be good enough for a while longer.

There's a reputable US website (that I probably can't mention) that seems to confirm that Asus B650 boards will be available to buy/ shipped from the 10th of October, so it looks like there will definitely be some B series boards available from this date.

Can Overclockers confirm if there will be any B650 motherboards for sale, on 10/10/2022?

There’s results might be fake, unless the 4090 is slower than my 6950 XT in Warzone at 1440P.

It's fake. There are lots of these YouTube accounts now who constantly just posted fake benchmarks of unreleased products because they've learnt that there are enough stupid and desperate people who will click on the video and YouTube will actually pay the video creator for this - the ultimate scam

Yeah, it's fake. If these videos were real, there would be 2 separate gameplay clips on the left and right side playing. Also, there are no comments or answers to questions, from the users who uploaded these videos.

A retest with a 4090 will be good to see using the same configurations + adding RPL to the mix.

Unlike CPU's where there's fighting over a couple of FPS, the performance jump from a 3090 to a 4090 is absurd.

I think ive never said this in the past - since I kept upgrading my CPU every gen - but it's come to a point where it's actually pointless nowadays. The gaming performance on the latest CPUs (alderlake / zen 3d / zen 4) is already overkill - and since the only card that will give an actual boost over ampere is only the 4090 (not a lot of people will buy this), CPU gaming benchmarks are kinda whatever now. Even zen 3 with nicely tuned ram can keep a 3090 fed in most games, The games where you actually need the fps (competitive shooters and all that) are already running insanely fast. AFAIK warzone is the heaviest competitive fps and even my crap 11600k could do 130 fps minimum in that one - with averages at like 180+

Im at a point right now where im putting the 13900 in the basket and then remove it and then put it back. It's the first gen that I realised I don't really need the performance, my 3090 is a MAJOR bottleneck already :D
