*** AMD "Zen 4" thread (inc AM5/APU discussion) ***

Hopefully, that's settled now then. No more arguments?

I would like to know - Can I build an AM5 system by the 10th of October, with a B650 motherboard?

I'm guessing that AMD won't confirm the exact launch date, as they think it will affect x670 board sales.

I have no interest in X670 motherboards...

Igor recommends just using insulation tape to make sure no thermal paste gets onto the CPU's components, like so:

It's super cheap stuff, no reason not to do this.

Regarding applying thermal paste, he says this "Not too thin and rather a bit more viscous, because you actually always get the paste pressed thin enough due to the high contact pressures".

The link is here if you wish to follow his steps:

The spikes aren’t enough to create any OCP concerns and anyone buying a 7950x should be smart enough to invest in a capable psu.

What would be way more useful is the voltage behavior and droop handling.

If you scroll down his feed, his data about idle power draw is more much more interesting.

AMD 7700X 5700X Mhz ALL core PC gameplay request at 1080p 1.30v With HWInfo64 on for anyone interested
Do you have spiderman? Can you test with hwunboxed settings (everything High + RT level 6)?

That one is supposed to use a lot of CPU resources, i want to see how much cpu utilization it gets

@Bencher wrong thread chap try here: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/raptor-lake-leaks.18941625/page-98#post-35898906
I'm looking for zen 4 information, you know like the thread title suggests? was looking forward to catching up on how the early adopters are getting on any issues, interesting findings etc.
Hi mate, I have. 7950x and a complete new build and I’m really enjoying it. I’ve come from a 10900k to this so the uplift has been nice.

In terms of issues I haven’t really had many, had some issues with windows 11 but I went back to 10 and all done.

I get the normal cinibench results at stock, I have undervolted it to .99 and all cores at 4.8 and it runs nice and cool, around 40 - 50 ish gaming I think.

RAM - is 4x16gb 6,000 but using the expo profile it’s at 5,000 which I think it to be expected as it’s 4 doms. I’ve not really played around to much tweaking or anything.

Why would you want to do that? Surely waiting for the 'price cuts' at the end of October would be a better option. ;)
It seems doubtful.

There's more likely to be cheaper non X models released next year, with slightly lower clock speeds.
