*** AMD "Zen 4" thread (inc AM5/APU discussion) ***

AMD should lower the prices, sales are terrible. They should not have released the 5800X3D.
I plan to buy the 5800X3D, over Zen 4 (93-degree Zen 4!). It works out about £500.00 cheaper. I don't do productivity, I game, so it will suit my needs.

yeah, I was looking over prices for motherboards just for fun (my asrock x470 doesn't have a bios for the 58003d and not sure it will have) and a x570 + 5800x3d offers about the same performance at a much lower price point . 7xxx is lol worthy in terms of price/performance.

I just checked my B450M Mortar Max and there's a bios that supports it, I'd be surprised if your X470 doesn't get it (unless there's other factors at play, not sure)

It more than likely does, it will just be listed under the BETA BIOS list. I've lost count of the number of X370/B350/B450/X470 boards that I've fitted 5xxx parts to including X3D's, I've only found one board that didn't have BIOS support and that was an old Biostar model.

Well, this is my MB - https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X470 Master SLI/index.asp#CPU . 5800x3D is not listed as supported.
BIOS - https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X470 Master SLI/index.asp#BIOS Latest is with "Update AMD AM4 AGESA Combo V2 PI 1.2.0.7"

Other x470 from them, Taichi, has the CPU supported in the list - https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X470 Taichi/index.asp#CPU
BIOS is with the same AGESA for both: Update AMD AM4 AGESA Combo V2 PI 1.2.0.7 https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X470 Taichi/index.asp#BIOS

BIOS Size is 256mb for both.

Only reason I can think of is either they've "forgot" to put it as supported in the list for my MB or it will come later on.

At this point I'm in no hurry either way. :)

X470 Master SLI.

Odd eh as it lists the X470 Master Sli/AC as compatible
https://www.asrock.com/support/cpu.us.asp?s=AM4&u=680

Not sure the difference. May just be a matter of time or an oversight?

Hopefully this is a sign of things to come when tech company's try to charge pandemic prices in a recession, the sooner they accept they are not going to beat the last 2 years gravy train profits margins and price accordingly the better it'll be for everyone.

Prices have been mostly determined by Intel, especially since the launch of the 12th gen.

Before that, Zen 3 and Rocket Lake prices were very high, especially the 11900k.

I think there will be more of a price war when the 13th gen locked CPUs + motherboards are released. Intel still dominates the market. At this point, I would expect to see a couple of cheaper Zen 4 models emerging.

I think people sometimes forget that chip production is going to get increasingly difficult, as the density of chips increases. 5nm EUV is still quite a new chip manufacturing technology. Chip components too are still considered to be suffering from shortages.

Why is there apparently still so much secrecy regarding the B650 motherboard release/ selling date?

Is it tomorrow?

There is literally zero secrecy, nearly all the boards are listed on the manufacturers websites for you to browse, and download manuals etc. There's a 90 min video here.

There's only 1 US website that mentions a release date of 10th Oct. The presentation simply didn't mention a release date, apart from October.

That is because the dates will vary based on manufacturer, the first date to go on sale at retail is the 10th October, but general availability was defined as during October. You'd be mad to buy one tomorrow though, prices will be dropping over the next few months as the PC market is still in the toilet.

I suppose we'll see what the prices are like.

I wonder if there's a possibility of some good bundle deals?

I think I can get about £210/£220 for my DDR4, CPU and cheap motherboard.

Not sure why you're even bothering if you play at 4K with a 3080 unless your after more performance for productivity.
