No you just lose internet for a few seconds wont crash your computer/games, have you tried disabling the cpu turbo/boost function and playing some games yet?
The NIC disappears from the PC, most games will crash or freeze. It seems to be a power saver bug that shuts it down and it mostly affects ASUS MB's.

So, I unplugged ethernet cable. Installed WiFi
Ran elite, game crashed differently, also still got GPU fault lit up on motherboard

Sounds like elite is bugged, I would try some other games.
also, check for drive errors again:
sfc /scannow
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth.

Odd that works fine on my am4, even though I've re installed windows twice
Try disabling the iGPU in the BIOS, cannot remember where it is, think its in AMD section.

Yes, maybe the game is not liking 2 GPU's. You could try disabling the iGPU in the device manager but when I did that some games would not run, said driver was incorrect version?

That's meant to be OK, even with 6000 series (and probably therefore the iGPU). So Elite ("Live", I'm assuming?) crashing is probably not graphics driver related.
You could try, as @FredFlint has suggested, disabling the iGPU; but also delete the GPUWorkTable.xml file (in the same place as EliteDangerous64.exe) to make it recalculate the planetary suff.

Maybe the GPU is been pushed harder with the faster CPU, try dropping the max frequency in the AMD driver software and enable V-Sync in the game to reduce stress on the GPU and see if that helps.

come to think of it, i did mention a while back, the GPU is 100% load now in games
in elite, i had to drop the graphics settings REALLY LOW to get it down
this is why i'm looking for a new GPU (6800 XT) to bring the load down
