*** AMD "Zen 4" thread (inc AM5/APU discussion) ***

So you couldnt agree with cpu`s being lowered in price? That sounds very..... unusual.
I wouldn't agree that AMD are restricting supply just to inflate prices. It's probably true that Intel like to 'flood the channel' IMHO AMD have a better idea of their business objectives than most you tubers or posters to this forum. It's a complicated, expensive industry to be in.

When you have your own fabs you can flood the market as much as you like. But you kill your margins as Intel are finding out. It's good flooding the market when they all sell but, as we are seeing, when they don't sell you have to lower prices to lower inventory to shift stock to flood the market and round and round you go. Intel would have been better to not flood the channel to protect margins which I think i've seen at the moment are roughly 11%. I think people are going to be in shock in a few years when Intel has to hoist prices 30-40% to get their margins back to where they were.

hmmm

gone back to crashing again

so , what's changed?
changed my GPU to a 3090, and i was in VR tonight, simple game online with others, and the game crashed several times, and once or twice PC restarted

tomorrow ill return to default bios, and test that game again

Well in case it helps anybody, Asroxk x670E Pro RS and Corsair Vengeance CMK32GX5M2D6000Z36 EXPO kit play together nicely with EXPO enabled. The EXPO kit is not on the QVL list but the XMP version is, I figured the settings are probably the same between them.

This is my first AMD CPU since an Athlon, playing around with PBO and it doesn't seem to do anything. Identical temps (85 max), power draw, clock speed (5.2something all core) and score in Cinebench with PBO on vs off. Here is a screenshot of Ryzen Master while Cinebench multi is running, you can see temp, PPT, TDC and EDC limits are not being touched, so what's limiting the CPU at this point? edit - 7700x

Bit more testing and think I've answered my own question. I was worried that PBO wasn't working properly on my MOBO as I wasn't seeing any difference on vs off, but by upping the scalar I did manage to increase the power draw so PBO does seem to be working and lifting the power limits. It gave me a 0% performance increase though for slightly higher power and temps (in Cinebench at least which is all I've tested so far), so seems pointless. This aligns with what basically everybody else on the internet is saying - curve optimiser with a negative offset is the way to go. PBO on without touching anything else appears pointless for my chip, I think it just gets limited by voltage, the stock/PBO off PPT limit is 99% enough.

Is there a benefit to a X670 board over a B650 board? The difference seems less clear cut with AMD.
Pretty much boils down to I/O. More usb, sata ports and pcie lanes/m.2 slots on X670 in general. Otherwise same class motherboards on these chipsets are very similar.
VRM is overengineered on anything that isn't basement tier.

Excellent list and would add that the more premium x670e boards offer better RGB options :p

Good point

Wish I thought that before I bought I bought a new motherboard lol

But windows is fine

Not sure if a game will work on the iGPU but I'll give it a whirl
If you have 3DMark, think it has a iGPU test (Night Raid).
Edit:
Turning medium load BoostIt off in the BIOS can improve stability, I used the search on the main screen to find it.
