AMD Zen 5 rumours

The only decision I have to make is whether to go for the whole shebang and get the 9950X or take advantage of the lower TDP of the 9900X, either way it will be a massive upgrade from my 3930K so I can't lose.
buy a 7950x3d and save money.:D

amd need to drop the price fast or they will score many own goals. I hope X3D chips perform better.

Looks like more of the same from AMDs new Ryzen rocket lake.
Failure on launch!

you think that they should design a chip for a crippled OS?
Yes, I want better GEM support for my early 90s music studio.

I didn't comment positively or negatively on the 9000 series, chill.

It's just interesting why the Linux results are so much better than the windows ones, is it a deliberate choice from AMD, Or a fundamental problem with windows. There are reports of games running faster on Linux than windows, we'll see where these chips end up in 6 months or so.

Boring launch. Slower in gaming than previous gen, high idle power consumption still not fixed.

X3D parts will be absolutely amazing though, even if they still have high idle power consumption.

You have inside information? What would be amazing? 15-20% uplift for gaming from zen4 X3d ? Productivity use is only gonna go down

I called it a few pages back that I thought the 9900X and 9950X would follow the same path as the 9600/9700X so unless the X3D parts have some new tech the 7xxxX3D doesn't then its going to be the same.

So everyone whats next, power limits, overclocking, power efficiency, disabling HT, wait for the 9900X/9950X, AMD marketing is fine...

there's always team blue (for now)

all in all this release is less exciting than even Zen to Zen+
CPUs feel like a refresh, but commanding full prices

patiently waiting for reviewers doing memory scaling test. Feel like Zen 5 is being help up by IOD, and might gain a lot from tuned fast memory

In total I ran nearly 400 benchmarks. When taking the geometric mean of all the raw performance results, the Ryzen 9 9950X came out to being 19.6% faster than the Ryzen 9 7950X. The Ryzen 9 9900X meanwhile was 21.5% faster than the Ryzen 9 7950X across this wide mix of workloads. The Ryzen 9 9950X was 33% faster than the Intel Core i9 14900K performance overall and even the Ryzen 9 9900X was 18% faster than the Core i9 14900K

Simply put, I am extremely impressed with the Ryzen 9 9900 series. If you are a creator, developer, or just doing any heavy lifting on your desktop across a range of workloads, the Ryzen 9 9950X and Ryzen 9 9900X proved to be terrific options. These new AMD Ryzen 9900 series processors deliver great generational uplift and better power efficiency than the prior Ryzen 9 7900 series parts and the Intel Core 14th Gen competition. At $499 USD for the Ryzen 9 9900X and $649 USD for the Ryzen 9 9950X these processors are also priced fair.

The contrast of that compared with the Windows result is astonishing, its not just that they are extremely good performers on Linux, they are on Windows too, all be it to a lesser extent when you compare them to Intel, when you compare them to AMD Zen 5 is to quote some of these reviews "nothing over Zen 4 and they are meh" yet on Linux its "20% and i'm extremely impressed"

What's up with that?

I'd absolutely go with the 9950X if you can, the x900 chips from both 7000 and 9000 series seem to be in a bit of an odd place price and performance wise compared to the other chips around them.
