AMD Zen 5 rumours

I think main reason this 9800x3d is becoming so popular is overclocking. 7800x3d there is very little you can do with it, 9800x3d has better design, I was tempted to move on my 7800x3d and swap for 9800x3d but can't be arsed waiting for cpu, I paid £330 for 7800x3d which is good price in my book, still might swap once the dust settles a bit. Never in any rush plus I am a bit more interested in more cores. For many people is great upgrade and they been waiting for a while so I can understand the excitement.

Just checked my 7900X3D price when I bought it back in Dec 2023. It was £375. It actually got much cheaper than that. This was a much maligned CPU but that negativity was purely on price, it was launched at £620 here in the UK. That was clearly designed to upsell to the 7950X3D.

At £375 it has been a great CPU for gaming and productivity. It’s now £85 more expensive at £460. These 7000 X3D prices are pure price gouging by retailers IMHO.

It was below £340 in October.

I'll wait for the reviews and then decide, I don't think the 9800x3D is enough of a step up so I'll wait and see what the 9950x3D brings to the table.

Not worth waiting if it’s a gaming only rig and you play at 4k in average gaming scenarios. IMO.

Clock differences at stock are likely to be fairly nominal. It’s also not obvious how they could somehow solve the 2 CCD issue and ‘improve’ latency over just the one CCD on the 9800X3D.

Plus it’s fair to assume the chips with more cores will have more power draw and higher temps.

Not really worth the trade off… unless you really want a productivity powerhouse.

However, if you haven’t yet ordered a 9800X3D it might only be a couple of months between receiving that (if you order now) and the announcement, so you might as well wait :)

Yeah, that's why I want to wait, I mainly game at 4k so probably not worth it but we'll see what the reviews say. I'll probably end up waiting for the 10 series.

toying with the idea of a 7-7700 non x mostly doing light gaming now and with a decent motherboard will leave me open to swapping it out if I feel the need
