*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

i hope AMD can get out a faster clocked 4core chip too
thats all gamers want right now
the ones on a budget anyway
something to take on the 6600k

I have had a bit of a read now and it does seem pretty decent. Close to the intel equivalents. I guess it depends on pricing as to how worthwhile it is. If similarly priced, people will just buy intel. It has to be a good deal cheaper for me to consider one.

i duno think of it this way
going all the way from 2core to 8core on the same platform would be pretty sweet, for any new builds that would be a smart buy
u think theres as much brand loyalty with cpu's?

And it seems that only an 8 core variant has been announced so far?

I wonder if there will be a more gamer focused 4 or 6 core version with higher clocks?

I'm still leaning towards an intel chip for my rebuild but at least zen seems interesting.

Will be keeping an eye on developments and any gaming benchmarks when they start to appear.

I have zero brand loyalty to anyone. I just want the best product for the amount of cash I'm prepared to spend.

so when you use it to review , all chips are sued with the same software....

Oh I agree.
But given what blender is. Stuffs meant to get faster doing the same thing, not slower :p.

I don't trust the validity of blender benchmarks.

People here have used latest blender with the amd image against me doing the same, and my 4770k is twice as fast. That's not right.

do you trust the handbrake bench they did or nup on that too? :)

Don't know.

Using the latest blender with the AMD image, going by AMDS ryzen benchmark is over 4 times faster than an FX83

Do you not find that the slightest bit suspect?

i dont know enough about that benchmark to have an opinion rly
those 2 tests just tell me its as fast as intel under them same workloads
if its as fast under other workloads is yet to be seen
its a totally different design to the fx, i duno if that predictive stuff is just hype or if that can have a big affect on scores too

but its a huge new redesign for sure

so far , with AMD looking like they are back in the game , why are you only now openly attacking the software used? will you suddenly do this for all software used?

As impressed as I am with Zen. It's not really "what I'm after". Primarily a gamer, I really am looking for more speed and IPC on 1/2/3/4 cores. Hope that comes soon.

Would a zen best a 4790K in a game like Arma? or as expected will the 4 core intels still win there?

I'm all looking forward to Zen. But you can't go through things blind.

Since when has an i 4770k been twice as fast as an FX83?

I questioned blender before results were ever shown.
