*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

And that's the potential issue for AMD. If Intel 4C/4T chips are doing 5GHz for £250 and AMD 6C/12T chips are only doing 4GHz for £300 between that and the IPC difference the AMD chip isn't going to be that far ahead in fully multithreaded applications but potentially a fair bit behind in gaming (at least at 1080p where CPU performance is likely to have a bigger impact). For a gamer it's not quite such an easy choice.
It's worth noting that Intel's 6C/12T chips start at £400, and also have lower clocks/IPC than the new 4C8T £250 ones.

The 7700K looks nice and all but I wouldn't trade my 4930K for it.

16 are being shown at CES, how is that not enough?
Well I was unhappy with it but only because my favourite motherboard brand is ASUS and they only brought one and it's a budget model.

Some added info from an AIDA64 dev guy:

Ryzen B1 stepping is done, working, and clocks seem very good.

He also hinted the high end boards are coming as well, mentioned the Asus Crosshair VI specifically.

6800K, a 6 core CPU is £400, AMD 6 core anywhere near that price would be pointless, they wouldn't sell any, so by the time whatever AMD pricing hopes might be hit reality AMD 6 core will be little over £300.
Not sure I agree with that. Personally I can't see it happening but AM4 boards are almost certainly going to be cheaper than X99 ones so even if the CPUs were the same price, the AMD platform would be cheaper overall.

Whats so nice about it? Its a 6700K with a little factory OC, which may or may not capable of higher manual OC than its predecessor, depending on each individuals silicon lottery.

Could be a good CES for AMD, the partner mobos that have been previewed look good, lots of custom PC builders are showcasing RyZen builds, their Vega architechture looks amazing and it seems its been built for high IPC and clock speeds http://videocardz.com/65406/exclusive-amd-vega-presentation

Overall they could have a very good CES presence, just hoping pricing is sensible for their products :)

Just my humble opinion.
If AMD only hit Haswell performance levels (IPC), and releases 4C/4T, and 4C/8T models later at good price (like 2/3 of the 6700K/7700K), they would still fly off the shelves.

Just imagine if you could buy a 4790K with DDR4 for £220, not many would buy the 6700K for £330

If AMD are aggressive price wise then Intel will just drop prices across the board and become competitive again, the reason Intel are so expensive is basically because AMD haven't been competitive for years. I've been saying for ages that line which goes "if AMD go bankrupt Intel will rob you all blind" is false - it's already long since happened.

It's a bit premature to be comparing 4c/8t Zen to 4790K anyway, we've not seen any evidence yet that Zen scales anything close to 4ghz without being heavily overclocked (which I read somewhere and is still only a rumour).

You mean like all the enthusiasts that basically buy into every new generation or the people who are still sticking with sandybridge i7's because in the real world it still wont be a real upgrade. Personally i only upgrade when i get bored with what i have But what real benefits in gaming would be hard to show outside of a fps counter or benchmark.

On 8C/16T
While i don't exactly know what the dev meant by clocks look very at the new rev, but if its better than 3.4GHZ that puts it already close to 4GHz at least.

Lets just wait and see.

People who buy i5 because they cannot justify to spend on i7 for example, if they could get i7 performance for i5 price on the other hand....

That's just speculation tho, and it may not happen. The above dev said (its just his opinion, so pinch of salt), that ZEN looks to be a very good CPU, so AMD might not barter it away cheaply.
