*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Am I missing something. Got back from work and there's barely any news from the event? Did it happen?

There was no event. They just released news on VEGA architecture. That is all. I know of no Ryzen event, but who knows. All we've seen is motherboards. I have a feeling CES is going to be a white wash, nothing more than dribbles and rumour.

Thanks.
That's fairly disappointing, was hoping for some real details especially considering all the hype with the count down.

pure speculation on my part but it seems that the firmware controlling the CPU's boost clocks is just not ready so no formal announcement. 3.6ghz base/4ghz boost bodes well though :)

My news app is getting updates talking about OCUK Ryzen builds on sites like amp and pcworld. Thought there would be threads all kver the joint haha.

I can't wait much longer I want to start pricing me up a mobo upgrade

I really don't get all this "ooh but it favours AMD" stuff. Yes, some games run better on AMD and some run better on nVidia cards, shock horror. Saying a benchmark can't be used because it demonstrates the point it's trying to make is silly. It's like people spouting that improved drivers has made the RX 480 better than the GTX 1060 over time...except that hasn't happened. Some Reddit user posted a chart showing the average performance difference between the two in maybe 20 top games and the nVidia card came out better in about 2/3 of them. But then people don't like facts. (To be fair I don't like these facts either, I'd rather AMD do better in the GPU market. :p)

Theres an F4 Ryzen out there at 3.6 base/4ghz boost

Presumably he means the 8c/16t version? If so that's pretty sweet. Shame we still don't know anything about how the 4 or 6 core versions will clock. You'd expect slightly higher but it won't be that much different.
