Handbrake is 1 application where 8350/9250 does well in - can use all 8 int cores for the math work
To be fair, that's really one of the only places I need my performance. So more cores / threads = better for me.

Its disappointing for you, when reality comes crashing down. Again , please critique Anandtech , I'm sure they will pay careful attention to your , opinion.

It's all about performance vs price. Even if Ryzen is not as far as Intel but is priced right it will sell. The elitist enthusiasts will always go for the best but for mere mortals it will be good enough, if they price it right...
Whatever AMD price it at for users on this forum it will be almost certainly "too expensive"... It seems these days everything is!!!
All Ryzen CPUs will be multiplier unlocked and ready for overclocking right out of the box. There will be no locked Ryzen CPUs.
AM4 X370, X300 and B350 chipsets all support overclocking.
Ryzen CPUs will come in different configurations with varying core counts. The highest core count parts will have eight cores and support sixteen threads.
Ryzen will launch closer to the middle of Q1 or early Q1 rather than the end of Q1. AMD wouldn’t give us a specific date but sometime in February is a good bet.
AM4 compatible aftermarket air and liquid cooling solutions will be available on day one.
Well the problem is most of us purchased our sandy/ivy/haswell i5 / i7 chips a while ago for a great deal less than the i5/i7 chips on offer today. yeah, they are a bit faster, but they are a whole lot more expensive!
We all know the pound has devalued, VATs gone up, add a touch of inflation and maybe it kinda works out ish, but the logic doesn't really make the cost any easier to stomach
4 core i7's are up $80 since Sandy, take Inflation and a bit of price hiking into account its not really that big of a deal, what bugs me much more than that is Intel are still pushing 4 core CPU's in the top level branding i7 at a price to match.
Intel in the past decade Intel have been all about stagnation, not just with slight IPC improvements but also core counts, todays $350 i7 are not much better than $270 i7's from several generations ago, in fact i think Intel had 6 core i7's not much more than $350 back then which beat the $350 KabyLake now...
Intel need humiliating again.
But they're not up.

I actually thought Sandy 2600K was cheaper, but apparently not.
Ok...
I think the 2700K came a bit later

The dollar rate is out of our control as is the pricing strategies of all the vendors.
I'd snap up an 8 core Ryzen if it's for under £400, depending on performance obviously.
Wouldn't we all.
Then we wake up, and realize that dreams are dreams.
