So i doubt I'll be moving from x99 until 2+ years then, not switching for a fairly measly <%10 improvement. Coffee lake may not tempt me either or even be worth it for that matter, probably Ice lake or Zen+ then since they seem to be out around the same time.

yeah, WCCF isn't a lot more reliable than one of us saying something. They seem to report on every rumour and possible leak. They sometimes get stuff right, but that's just because some rumours and leaks are real, not because they source good information

I'd imagine the 8 core version will easily be the best bang-for-buck for this type of work, assuming of course your software scales well. The 6 core may well be a great option too if it's decently cheaper than Intel's low-end X99 offerings.I'm curious to know the capability in a music production environment (DAWS, VST's plugins etc)?
