*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Had Keller already completed his part in helping design Zen?

Yes - as Zen has supposedly already taped out, then all the design work is done. Any minor fixes e.g. as samples come back can be done by AMD's engineering team.

I assume Keller was brought in to lead on Zen and point the CPU division back in a sensible direction. I assume his contact will have cost AMD a fair amount, but if it actually produces results, then it will be money well spent.

Whatever comes after Zen, presumably Keller will have had input into which way Zen needs to evolve, as we are likely to see several generations of evolutionary designs from AMD.

Any speculation on how RAM speed affects performance on Zen? I'm assuming it will be the same as an x99 systems, that being 1-3 FPS gain in gaming at most, Maybe a similar gain from lower latency RAM as AMD have favoured in past CPUs? CPU only, not the APU variant.

I hope Zen is good as I'm looking forward to replacing my Sandybridge setup in about 12 months time. Should be done nice kit to choose from by then :)

I have faith in Zen - My last AMD build was the AMD 64 3200 for a HL2 and CS:Source machine.

I've had to order an interim skylake build but I've been waiting for my damned i5 6600k for a month now - it's gone up from £185 to sometimes over £220 and out of stock everywhere!!!

At this rate i might as well wait for Zen! Or least bloody black friday! :@

Totally - I toyed with the idea of putting together an AMD system together but the lack of newer features on motherboards (USB 3.1, M.2 etc) is off-putting...

I miss the days of nForce :(

nForce - those were the days indeed!

I'm not expecting much of Zen, though I'm extremely hopeful that I'll be proved wrong and that it outperforms Intel's offerings.

I can see me buying it, even if the CPU side doesn't live up to expectations (and I believe it will, as the expectations aren't that high?).
Happy with the performance the 7850k gives, but looking forward to better IGP!
Hoping it comes out a good bit ahead of the current Iris Pro offerings.

The current rumor is that Zen CPU comes first in 2016, Zen APU (With IGPU) is coming 2017. Apparently next year is just another Bulldozer iteration with updated chipset / DDR4 support, basically just an updated refresh for the APU lineup. 2017 will bring the good Zen stuff for APU.

I was hoping to wait for Zen but I almost got an x99 build yesterday, but I figure January when the 1440p screens I'm wanting get released. as I'm stuck on a pitiful resolution until that time (had 2 1200p monitors die over this year).

When is black friday in the UK exactly? I only really know of it as something the americans do.
