*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Wow,if that leak is true, those base clockspeeds are actually not too bad - 3.7GHZ for the lowest end SKU at launch. I actually thought we might just get one SKU at 3.4GHZ and another at 3.6GHZ!!

Edit!!

Even if AMD does not quite get to Broadwell level IPC,at those clockspeeds it should be quite competitive with a Core i7 6900K.

If thats true and the top 8/16 is £500-£550 with a base clockspeed of 4ghz (non boost?) thats going to sell like hotcakes i imagine? Would definitely trade in my 4770k for one of those without a second thought if the performance is comparable in single threaded stuff.

As others are pointing out tho if they come with a 6/12 variant that could be the goto chip.

This is all speculation as Silent_Scone is adamant that the chips wont clock much higher than 4.0ghz, which means it will be surprising to see them offered at a 4.0ghz base.

If it is indeed 8/16 @4.0ghz base for £520 and offers 6900k performance, they just made BW-E 6900k redundant imo, and then you look at the cost of buying a 7700k and figure for another £150 or so you can have twice the core count?

Also if it is 4.0ghz base, i wonder what it will OC to

i don't think people with OC'ed 4770K i7's and upwards will switch that easily.
At this point unless the 8c/16t ryzen OC's to around 4.5-4.8 with respectable voltage, the only people upgrading will be the ones that need cores more than speed.

From the rumour and something else I read,it looks like 65W,95W and 105W TDP for those parts.

So I expect 65W TDP is the sweetspot, and the other parts are probably overvolted or leakier parts.

Looking at the last few AMD CPU launches,I would say anything over another 10% on the top SKU might be pushing it(I could be wrong there).

It also means the 6C/12T parts will be under £300 if the pricing is correct - looks like Humbug is going to be happy with that pricing! :p

This depends on whether AMD have managed to make Ryzen's IPC better than Haswell/Broadwell too.

Well looking at the CPC leak it seems around Haswell/Broadwell level. But if that pricing is true,it means we are probably seeing at least one 6C/12T SKU under £300.

pretty sweet if true
tho a 4core that clocks 4.5 would be great if they can do that aswell
such a easy recommend with that upgrade path!

So enthusiast CPU's from AMD hitting GPU price levels. And performing at the same or similar level of CPU that Intel has had out for a while.

not great, really. Hope the mainstream CPUs are more reasonably priced with good bang for buck. I bought the 480 hype before launch, I won't be duped twice.

As expected. AMD just price matching where they think their cpu's perform like. Hardly making anyone switch from Intel to AMD.

How low do you want them to go?
Assuming those prices are real that puts an AMD 8c16t cheaper than Intel's current 6c12t, and one would logically assume one of AMD's 6c12t models to come in a chunk lower than Intel's current 4c8t pricing.
