*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Alright guys

The various distributer leaks make it seem like only the 8-core SKUs will be launched soon. What about the rest of them?

Catch ya later guys

Because some feel special with PS2 mechanical, and very expensive, keyboards from the 80s and 90s listening to constant clicking noise for no benefit.

While the plebs, like my self, use quiet good quality usb ones. And the day MS announces the discontinuation of the ergonomic one, I will buy 20 to have stock until the bucket is kicked....
Using them more than a dozen years now, since they came out, and I adore them. (on the 4th right now)

I used to buy the MS ergonimics in 5 bundles, i used them for years :) i found them so much more comfortable for gaming. I just wish I could find an mechanical ergonomic one.

Going back on topic the cross hair one is looking up my street :)

FAO anyone looking at the EVGA AIO for a Ryzen build, had a query with EVGA Support via their website, asking if the box will ship with AM4 bracket, the AIO is released on the 24th Feb, email response from EVGA states it wont be shipped with AM4 bracket but once RyZen is released you can request a bracket via EVGA Website.

I am guessing the usual proof of purchase is required for this.

An EVGA AM4 X370 board would be interesting.

Mildly disappointed in the clocks for the 4-6c units... Had hoped they go higher due to less power draw, but this feels like they're failed 8 cores with bits disabled and reduced frequencies :/

Still, maybe they'll turn out to be the mutts nuts for overclocking, or be unlockable like those old 3-cores back in the day :D

Nothing wrong with liking old mechanical keyboards. If you type a lot a mechanical kbd can be of huge benefit and the modern USB mechanical models use switch-type keys, which don't have the same feel as the buckling-spring mechanism used on the old IBM Model M and similar. Some people simply prefer the old style, and if you're regularly bashing out thousands of words even a small improvement in feel and/or accuracy can be important.

Whether this is a valid reason for keeping PS/2 ports around is another debate. I suspect it's done more for crazed South Korean gamers who've convinced themselves that PS/2's lower latency gives them a minute edge. The same kind of people who run CRTs at 640x480 because even the fastest gaming LCDs are just too slow...

Just seen these prices on a retail site. For comparison they have the i7-7700k for a similar price to OCUK

R7 1800x - £474.37
R7 1700x - £368.71
R7 1700 - £305.32

Some binning for the 8c for sure, but the stock clocks are also there to reinforce product segmentation.

Will there really be large quantities of chips with 4 failed cores? Seems quite extreme as far as defects go.
