*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Different ISAs aren't really comparable in terms of single thread performance though. One is a sleek sports car suited for a specific task, the other a premium estate that can do everything reasonably well.
Not *directly* comparable, but certainly comparable in consumer devices when they are broadly used for the same tasks.

^^

You crazy bro :p

Up to 16GB HBM, 16 CPU cores with updated graphics architecture. This APU looks like a monster !

The CPU's will no doubt be impressive as well, but this APU looks awesome if spec is legit.

Eventually we'll be able to make some tiny PC's like NUC's that have decent gaming specs.
The only thing that'll let them down is the need for a power brick.

1600X Base clock 3.3Ghz & boost clock 3.7Ghz

95W mixing it up with the 140W big boys.

Hold on to your hats!!!

Edit: i5 6600K Price point for....

Overclocking board for under $80, I recall someone complaining about high priced boards all over when actually all we are seeing atm are the flagship level ones for attention.

Reminds me, I saw that the highest spec boards will be ATX only with mATX being B350

Not sure how solid that line is, see if Asus gives any damns when making their ROG AM4 mATX.

Thinking much about a new board for my mini p180 which is mATX only.

Base 3.3Ghz boost 3.7Ghz

6850k stock is about 1190 with boost of 3.8Ghz

Sounds okay but it also sounds like it might be let down when gaming with older titles that are predominantly single threaded compared to the Haswell refresh and newer mainstream chips.
I suppose it'll be decided by how well they overclock, I want more cores and threads but my primary use is gaming so I don't want to end up losing out at that. I run my 4790k at 4.5 so it looks like I'll end up going with one of AMD's cherry picked 8 core 16 thread model, If the prices really are around what's being leaked it'll be great.

I think cherry picked or not, they are going to be some CPUs for the price. Justto think, we was expecting Haswell IPC and it is looking way beyond that.

I didn't think it was looking better than Haswell's IPC, but I'm often wrong so I hope you're right it'll be good news if it is.

Well if we do go mega small should be far less watts to run the problem is AC to DC conversion ....the age we live in you would think newly built house's would have both AC and DC

200+ watt dc there is a 300+ watt version runs hotter needs cooling

Used a few of these for small fully fledge pc's under 200 watt with my solar setup when out in the campo in Spain still runs great 6 years on when i go visit any thing wanting 5-6 to 12 v could run straight of the solar setup bats ect

Set up a few on canal barges too

55+ watt dc

That score is pretty good, but it needs to overclock!

I'd be amazed if these things haven't got at least a 15-20% overclock in them, I simply can't believe that 4.2Ghz minimum is not achievable. Which would put them within spitting distance of your OC 6850 score

..and then of course we have the killer blow, £600 vs £250-£300.

I'm hoping for 4.6 top end with 4.2 as an easy minimum.
