*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

The fastest for a 6950x (10c/20t) is 5.7ghz so im sure a 6900k could go faster.

Edit: The 5960x managed 6.45ghz ;)

The first runs they did were at 5.2Ghz, they then went on, it doesn't say what was benched or what was done. Again what you can overclock to and run either just cpu-z or harder things like superpi on a single core with all others disabled is entirely different to what you can do with all cores fully loaded in a longer and much tougher benchmark, the speeds are night and day. You might be able to get 7.5Ghz single core 7700k, but all cores full loaded.

Broadwell-e overclocked quite a bit worse than Ivy-e on ln2.

Remember that cores are a pretty small part of that overall die shot, some of the chips sold as 6 cores will not be sold as 8 cores because some of the cache isn't working, others will be sold as 6 cores because some of the cores aren't working.

It's more likely than not I'd think that the L3 cache will be lower on a 6c part, but meh, who knows. We'll see, no L3 really doesn't hit performance that much, a little more L3 per core will likely make margin of error levels of difference.

Also I wouldn't be surprised to see the 6/4 core chips come in 65W or lower TDPs.

There are persistent rumours that the top parts are 95W and have a 3.9GHZ Turbo clockspeed. Unless they are really are poor chips(need extra voltage than the 8C parts),I can see XFR working better on them than the 8C parts - it would not surprise me if XFR is more TDP limited on the 8C parts than anything else.

Still, for AMD to get to 4.1GHZ on an 8C/16T part without any manual overclocking is pretty decent. I don't think many were expecting this last year.

i think the stock hit a wall it seem to be climbing it up
