*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Any idea if Windows 7 will get a patch or just 10? I would hope 7 / 2008R2 still would for enterprise customers - but can never be sure these days.

Such drama and excitement.

Give it a couple of months and you'll be looking at some proper results.

So AMD couldn't organise a **** up in a brewery, they'll get there eventually. There at least is some substance to Zen.

Windows 10, Server 2012 & 2016 would certainly be a priority. But like you, I'm unsure whether they'd support 7.

The trouble is with things like this as that the headlines are already made and these sorts of things will crop up when people google search which cpu is better etc. Even if they can fix it all eventually, some damage is already done.

Lets do this.....

when you say 'let's do this' do you mean clean your mouse mat!? the hell is that stain on it man!! you get too excited when your new gear arrived! :p

would have been worse if the 6 cores came out at the same time, at least this way they will get reviewed (hopefully) with all the kinks ironed out. It would be nice if some reviewers went back and did the 8 cores again as well but i doubt many would.

Yeah after looking at reviews its pretty obvious there is something software/bios etc related with the gaming performance
You can clearly see from benches that the single core performance is exatly what AMD said it will be, around Broadwell, multi core is even better with the more efficient SMT, so the grunt is there in the CPU, but somehow not utilized in games.
I think the patches for games will come shortly, just as the better BIOS versions from the mobo manufacturers, and in 1-2 month the gaming performance will increase greatly.

I think that is what is know as "the man juice stain" It is believed it often happens when new shiny shiny gets delivered :D

Been wanting to upgrade my 2600k for a while and it's tricky when a Ryzen 1700 cpu/mobo/ram combo is the same price as a 7700k cpu/mobo/ram combo. Suppose the debate is pay for more performance now but have a system thats obsolete in a year or so or pay and hope performance gets better / enjoy a motherboard that should have a 5 year life span and in the long run won't cost as much to upgrade

If you're the kind of person that upgrades every two years, I'd say the 7700k is what you want in a gaming rig.

If your looking for a long-term upgrade - something to last 5 years then 1700X would probably be better as it will start to stretch its legs as the ecosystem matures and games start using more and more threads.
