*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

AAAAaaaaaaah

It's all the same chip with different stock clocks applied
It is, but on the AMA they confirmed the binning process pretty much, in that they test the frequency voltage curve at a 25Mhz/6mv level of accuracy, with, presumably anyway, the better performing chips being the higher grade SKUs.

So, whilst they can probably all reach pretty much the same speed, a 1700x and more so an 1800x should require less voltage to reach that target.

I'm seeing no evidence of this, however.

Do i suck it up and get a b350 if I am not pushing for monster OC's?

Though monster OCes is debatable, as I was hoping for 4ghz which seems to norm...

At this stage is it still worth holding out for a 1700X, or is it everyones view that the 7700k is the better option for mainly gaming?
I'd agree for now but I will qualify that by saying DX12 and Vulkan are very MP aware, so I can see that changing in the next year or 2.

Nice to see AMD actually hitting these head on instead of the typical nope nothing wrong move along head in the sand.

I'm looking at the worst case scenarios today and remembering the best case scenarios from a year ago and the data we are getting has exceeded our expectations from that time. People seem to be forgetting this with some overhype at the last minute.

It's looking pretty sweet from my perspective and there are clearly a lot of day one issues which should increase the performance even further in a month or so when bios updates come through and everything is stabilised. Intel prices should be dropping like rocks.

Indeed, that's what I've started to think tbh. Looks as though these can be resolved but there was little to no work done before release or info given to reviewers.

By the time the 4 and 6 core chips land these issues will all been resolved through Windows patching and Motherboards getting their BIOSes in order, so its not a total loss, the chip will get another chance with more reviews when its more mature.
