*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

It could still be that the Devs haven't worked on optimising how they use the Windows scheduler with the multicore/thread system. It is shown with CA and their Total War games which even on 4C/8T systems have issues compared to it on just 4C/4T. This needs devs to still optimise to make sure the scheduler from Windows is running right from their engine for the number of available core/threads shown.

That was my understanding.

There is a windows update to help but some also is needed by devs to get things working.

Well if the windows update cuts it down to the odd game, then it would be not so bad then - its why I wish AMD PR would answer like you did,as it was an all or nothing response.

Aye it does seem to be get a response in principle, not think about how it is to be taken but know they have answered and moved on at the moment. Some more details are deffo needed but with what I put it is what I am understanding from some of the Devs comments on being committed to AMD and then AMD's response and reading between the lines.

I've got a £350 custom loop setup ready to go when everything is together on Saturday. I'll post back with temps etc if there isn't already a ton by then.

Brilliant, am looking forward to seeing the results. I am not moving over to Ryzen till ITX boards are about but then it will like be Ryzen+ for me anyways due to funds (decorating the whole house and landscaping cost more that I wish to think about) so got to get my system to last another 12-18 months.

This however is really helping to show that AMD are likely the way forward for the next few years if they can keep momentum going. Bearing in mind anything on Intels roadmap till 2019 is same Architecture certainly in principle if not in name so I don't see a big jump back to them for a while.

Yeah, but it pretty much reads,it will be fixed when its fixed and its only some games. Look in the review thread - I counted 12 games at least and many have more than a 5% regression in performance. In one or two instances so can BW-E but KL seems to really not have this issue at all.

Yeah, but the response by AMD was weird - it needs to be optimised for in games?? Surely its more an issue with the Windows scheduler than the games themselves??

AMD PR was saying it wasn't a Windows scheduler issue but one devs needed to handle!! At times I wonder if AMD PR makes things sound worse than they are?? Hopefully it isn't as bad.

I don't think AMD PR really know the extent of whats really going on, there are some wildly differing reviews out there an Robert has explained some of the issues Windows is infact having with this CPU.

Yeah, not to knock him and the others since they are probably working 24/7 now,but I do think at times AMD PR does not appreciate that some of their comments add oil to the fire, not put the fire out. Remember, the AMD bloke just randomly saying "Overclockers Dream" which was used to mock the poor overclocking on a Fury X. If he had not said anything,it would have been less highlighted.

i was on the fence pre launch, but im more and more wanting to jump into intel's garden, i dont want to spend all that cash on amd and then wait for it to get "fixed"

The 1700 looks fantastic value for money. Seeing it at 3.9Ghz give the 7700K at 5Ghz a good showing is even more impressive.
people need to realise the 1700 is AMD's 5960X in performance, but at a third of the price. It's very appealing.

Motherboard manufactures just really need to sort out the issues hampering performance.
