*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

I just can't get over the damn value Ryzen gives for video, rendering, and transcoding at stock speeds.
Once they sort out the gaming issues with SMT and motherboards, I cannot for the life of me see a reason for small content creators to bother with X99 8 and 6 cores.

successful delidding is possible, but difficult (I have a delidded 6850K), but results under LN2 shouldn't be of any consequence to people who are looking for out and out performance. For some though, these google results are all they have.

Agree the 1700 is a 65w beauty

Can not get that page to English ....looks interesting what are they stating ...

Here's the quote in english, it's in relation to performance and stability issues on the MSI motherboards.

The MSI board was delivered with BIOS version 113, until last Friday a new one appeared.

Version 117, which is still up-to-date, improved speed and stability. If we were still able to count on sporadic Bluescreens with the older UEFI, the board is currently stable. Much more important, however, is the drastically higher performance in games and the real pack with 7-Zip. The release notes include, among other things, a fixed problem with the memory act and its timing as well as the voltage.

Compared to the original bios, the new UEFI increases the image rate in our game course between plus 4 and plus 26 percent, on the average even plus 17 percent!

AMD also confirmed both ASUS and MSI motherboards were having issues; with the latter getting that 117 BIOS version update at the last minute barely before reviews were done. Which means many places most likely did not update.

This helps explain why reviewers with the Gigabyte boards like Joker, Crit, UFDiciple, and TechDeals had far better gaming performance.

Double ouch....

That phone interview confirms what many thought, that the ASUS boards are having issues, and similar for MSI.
It explains why reviewers such as Joker, Crit, UFDiciple, and TechDeals had far better gaming performance.

Golem.de in Germany had this to say in regards to their MSI motherboard.

thx ..so it seems reviewers with the gigabyte board press kits have had less issues than the AUSU & MSI press kits

Includes a skype call from amd about the motherboards etc.

That's very interesting, and backs up other sources as well that random boards and different BIOS that are still not ready, has caused screwed results across the boards.

With further issues with SMT, core parking/CCX and Memory tables, i think it's pointless reviewing at the moment, or at least going by them.

Hopefully we can have follow up reviews in a month.

See what I mean? With SMT on,the R7 1800X looks more like a Core i7 3770K. With it off,it seems more like a Core i7 4790K.

If AMD had communicated this with reviewers beforehand, more reviews would have tested it with SMT off. Haswell level gaming performance is much better sounding than Ivy Bridge level!!

are there any known issues with the asrock taichi?(its had 2 bios revisions since release) i haven't seen any reviews using this board though

Still none in stock anywhere it seems, noticed on their memory QVL it says this:

Note1: Each RAM whose frequency is 3000 will downgrade to 2933 with X370 Taichi.
Note2: Each RAM whose frequency is 2800 will downgrade to 2666 with X370 Taichi.
