*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Having seen the video again tonight, I am thinking if 1700 would overclock to 4.2 with the Taichi or better get the 1800X.
Many have OC the 1700 @ 4.1 with lesser boards....

Well it's really down to price to performance, and the main issue still seems to be early BIOSs.

If I was buying right now, I'd rather save €170 and get the 1700 then run at 4.1Ghz ( with chance of 4.2) compared to the 1800X for a chance at 4.2Ghz.

Yeah my thought. Mine it will be watercooled either way. Initially with the Predator 360 (I have the AM4 conversion kit) and when Vega comes out under custom loop with 2 360mm rads.
Also all of them look like they need the same amount of power to get to same speeds.

I had ram speed issues until I updated to BIOS but obviously that means being able to boot first. Shame you're not nearer to me. I getting just a 4gb stick of Corsair out of the question?
I'm pretty sure the board is fine, I've had DOA motherboards in the past and they were dead as a dodo.

Actually l let one of my work mates have my old crucial green DDR4, so nabbing that tonight and then hopefully can update to 1.14 and then fit my original ram back into see if there is life! Luckily I work in an IT section (aircraft tech myself) so have plenty of on hand SMEs.

Sounds like a great plan to me! So far it seems Asrock and Gigabyte are the motherboards to get if you want decent RAM speed and overclocks.

Now if only manufacturers could get enough motherboards out.

Before I RMA my RAM, i just wanted to run this by you 'orrible lot.

I have a 16GB kit and 32GB kit of Corsair Vengeance. The 16GB kit works fine, both 8GB sticks have no problems. One of the 16GB sticks of the 32GB kit gives an 1F error and doesn't boot. The other one is fine.

Now I'm fairly sure it's a dud stick, but could it be slightly less tolerant than the other stick and it's the ASUS CH6 board not liking it?

Cough,anybody notice this:

Well ee see how i get on with asus. If it bricks itself ill rma the lot get refound and buy 1080ti. Its my last time giving amd a chance.
Why you blame AMD for Asus issues? Gigabyte and MSI have shown that their B350 and X370 boards are superb. Especially MSI posting new BIOS updates almost daily improving perf, power consumption etc with their Tomahawk B350 an absolute monster.
Also we know that the Asrock comes out with great boards.

Is it possible to put 2 M.2 SSDs on a motherboard? I'm a bit confused with it...

Also do you know where's the difference between the MSI X370 Carbon and the Titanium one which justifice the price?
