*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

TBH,the crap exchange rates affects Intel CPUs too,so in the end we can only compare relative to Intel.

4C/8T at slightly under Core i5 7400 pricing, with an unlocked multipler - even if the parts don't overclock as well as an R7 1700,its got SMT and a clockspeed advantage over the Core i5 7400.

Forget the R5 1600X,the R5 1400 will save you enough money to get a decent RX480 8GB or GTX1060 6GB over a RX470 4GB or GTX1060 3GB.

Now,I am more interested to see what that Twitter post about the fixes will mean for gaming performance. If it means SMT can get more consistent scaling in games,AMD is onto a winner.

Its going to be interesting if these sku's can push a little more then what the r7's are showing now... i doubt it but you never know i am certainly intrigued...

Someone can get an R5 1400 now with their RX480/GTX1060/RX580/GTX1060 MK2,and if they need MOAR cores can drop in a Ryzen 2 CPU at a later date.

A lot of people who buy sub £200 CPUs tend to be more GPU limited anyway.

Well all I can say is this - the Core i3 7350K needs a big price drop now!!:p

(Mental note NEVER sell my current PC before I have the new one at home).

Because is proven that the fps difference between 2400Mhz and 3200Mhz on Ryzen is 10-13% alone due to how the northbridge is working.

Or just keep really old hardware, like I keep 8800gt now as it was so good originally and its pointless to sell something that old especially after postage. Ditto conroe is really worth nothing, good backup still. Both work fine on basic OS use, everyone has old but gold games they didnt finish so both are just fine for a while instead of nothing

3200mhz is quite specialist ram, didnt realise it was such a big issue. Sounds like the market will get squeezed if thats the case

Makes sense to keep it balanced. Good motherboard to swap bits about on is where I'd start

Last memo from Intel states that there giving it a way for free :p

I think this is the real point here to be honest. As someone earlier pointed out, an RX 480 8GB + R5 1400/1600 is going to make an incredible system for the money. However, unlike with Intel, you'll actually have a nice upgrade path. Anyone with an i5-2500K could just shove in an i7-3770K but they are still fairly pricey considering how old they are and that you're not getting much except SMT. You'd be paying a much better price with a new Zen+ CPU on the same socket in year or two and possibly doubling your core count.

You find anyway the better the exchange rate the more we would get screwed over.

Even though the pound is worth less the consumer still has a sense of how much the pound should buy and would find it hard to pay higher prices as what we have been so used to paying previously. So the manufacturer I'm sure will take some of the hit to ensure they still get the sales.

Got my eye on the 1600 which seems to be the 6 core of choice, in the same way the 1700 is the 8 core of choice. I'm also assuming a 6 core will be plenty to handle streaming?

My next issue is deciding what to do graphics card wise. I desperately need a new one, but Vega's release date is in that time frame of being close, but slightly too far away to wait for. Not sure if I should grab a cheap 480 and sell it, wait for the new re brands, or just go all in with a 1070 or something.

Imagine if we were still 1.50 to a dollar.

Lol, if you think with the dysfunctional UK retail market we have that a 25% increase in the value of the pound would mean a 25% reduction in prices, then you're just kidding yourself.

It's never worked like that and never will.

The fact that retail margins in this country are a good 20% higher than the States means you'd have to have the pound closer to $1.80 before you'd see a real tangible drop in prices here.

If anything the low £ has forced the retailers hands in many ways, forcing them to drop the price gouging because they know the customer would simply not tolerate such high prices.

I'm unsure about the 1600, I'll have to wait to see some decent reviews. I'm guessing it's 3+3 in terms of CCX? It seems for current games the 1400/1500 overclocked may perform just as well, and for other stuff, the 1700 overclocked is going to outperform it easily.

I think its more failed 8cores with 2cores turned off. So 2+4
