*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Sneak peak demo.

I know it's not much, but it vaguely shows AMDs 1600X beating Intels 7600K in Blender. :)

Also mentions 16 fps delta increase switching from 2133MHz to 2933MHz RAM using an 1800X in F1 2016 @ 1080P.

Last is gaming in Overwatch on Ryzen 5 @ 1080P, that one seems a waste of time to me because when using AMD Phenom II X6 it reaches over 120 fps lol.

Before I re-install windows did a quick run on WOT this morning.
I do not see any difference in fps, maybe feels bit faster and doesn't freezes on shots with a lot of smoke. But that could be my perseption.
But for sure the fps is not less than the 6700K @ 4.7 if not more (1700X at stock speeds). And that's a single threaded game, with the audio processed on second thread only.

for gaming they demoed 1600x and faster memory, with emphasis on playability over 120fps, meaning we wont see much change in gaming with R5

if you are running windows 10, switch to performance mode instead of balanced, and try to bump the memory speed, that should help .

Testng Ryzen on the CPU Physics heavy area's in Crysis 3 with 4 GPUs. Previously my 5960x would drop some FPS in the grassy area's.

Well that just says it all.... Damn M$ sick to the teeth of there practises

If I didn't game I wouldn't be using Windows at all. Gets worse every iteration pretty much, ever since MS realised that subscription and advertising based on bulk data collection makes more money than charging for updates that people generally don't want very often.

However, couldn't you just block whichever update actually includes this Kaby Lake/Summit Ridge blocking stuff? It must've been added at some point. I use WSUS and block any updates to do with telemetry, customer experience improvement program, and upgrading.

Agree

Yes can block with Wsus or do manually but that eventually causes issues with hanging up dates the last time i tried it ..that along with driver issues with older hardware mainly PCI audio cards and USB ext audio with high DPC latency and high buffer loads for DAW system i gave up on 10 not worth the time and hassle and for that i stick with good old trusty win 7 ....

Its such shame really ..The sooner i can get off M$ Eco system the better ..Been testing Linux with Ryzen and its strange that its utilizing the cpu better than all M$ OS's combined :p

If I understand you correctly your saying that your perceptible performance feels no different when going from a 6700k @ 4.7 to a stock 1700X?

I'm thinking if making the jump from a 3570k myself. And was debating the gaming performance.

Yeah Linux's scheduler is pretty sound. The problem is that if you want DX12 you need Windows 10. The best solution to me seems to be a hybrid (Linux with a Windows VM with GPU passthrough) but that requires either an APU, or two GPUs. Ryzen's IOMMU groups need fixing before that'll work though. I dunno how the distribution CPU cores works though, i.e. I would hope you can set Windows to have 6-7 of the 8 physical cores whilst still having all 8 cores in Linux when Windows isn't running.

Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB is alright but you don't get feature updates so you're always gonna be behind on those. I guess that's an (illegal) option if you want "Windows 7 with DX12".

My Hero finally came in last night and I started putting things together. Can anyone tell me if there is supposed to be a seal on the Asus box? The one I got was not wrapped in plastic, or had not seals to keep it closed. Everything was in the box, and it looked unopened.
