*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

hahahaha i'm tempted so very tempted :)

Need chop a bit of my kit in to do it
Corsair Hydro H50-1 High-Performance CPU Watercooler
Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz (Sandybridge)
Asus P8P67 Intel P67
Corsair DDR3 XMS3 PC3-12800 (1600), 24gig

What's your Gpu

If you are after a new pc then 1700 non x money saved over the x version put towards better motherboard or gpu depending what you have

but if your pc is fine with current usage games, production ..then hang tight see what Intel come up with or Zen 2 but we can all wait till the earth stop spinning :)

i upgraded to two 1700 non x was using i7 7700k 4770k & 4790k as a 3 DAW setup and the 2 Ryzens for me in audio production out performs all 3 i7 put together with a little room to spare and using less power in the mean time
also just sold two of the I7 systems once i have sold the 3rd its not cost me much at all to upgrade at all so win win

There's people on here with 1700's at 4.0. there's also people with 1700x at 3.9 it's a lottery. The upside of the x chips is they clock the same but use less voltage. They all seem to hit a wall after 4.0 regardless of volts.

Thank you just don't really want my fan belting at full pace all the time really which was one thing empting me to the X i guess .

Tempting on that £299 1700. I've been eyeing up the 1700X, as it is really very very lose to the 1800X and from a few benchmarks I've seen minimum frames are actually a little better on the 1700x compared to the 1700. As much a 7fps in one of two games.

XFR is another thing that I 'won't'. Even tho I understand it only means in the right thermal conditions the CPU will boost a further 100Mhz. And that's only on one core right?

Probably not really worth it......

i suppose if your only using out of the box with no tweaking then its the x version if your oc tweaking then 1700 non x money saved put towards better motherboard or summit else

Amd R7 360 To be honest i don't play a lot of games but i do use Virtual machines a lot on my system and was thinking extra cores etc will make things run a lot better instead of maxing out this cpu all the time ?

Yep if your VMing and you can afford a new build then 1700 non x all the way i suspect it will be a massive upgrade from sandy ....and if your quick enough sell your sandy before the R5's arrives on the 11th as i suspect 2nd hand value of all Intels will drop

Was looking at something like a Corsair Hydro H50 that i use on the 2600K but of course for this socket. would have to be 120m fan though single as i have no room for a double fan set up

The wraith cooler that comes with the 1700 should be fine

Thanks for you input and time very much appreciate it

Is the wraith cooler not noisey ? thats one reason i went for the liquid cooler on the 2600k when i bought it

The wraith cooler is the best stock cooler I've ever seen. It's silent at anything upto 90%. Well for me it is.

Is it worth paying more for the motherboard Asrock X370 Taichi over something like Asrock Killer?

I've only use Asus to be fair in the past always done me well .

Np
The Wraith stock cooler is fantastic
my advice is try it i find them quite... i was surprised tbh and it really shows how sh....poo the the Intel stock coolers are or put it another way shows how money pinching Intel have been with us lets not get started with the Intel TIM hs used by them...

Yeah the intel one that came with 2600k i though i had a jet in my case then opted for the liquid cooler ! Though of course that was 6 years ago a lot has come on from then just seen you now plug SSD drive in to the motherboard (M2) and not just use contectors like standard SSD !

Agree ..but the thing is Intel are still using the same stock cooler than the one you had :)

Ssd on sata's are still fine M2 for me there is no big changer its good if you want more space ect but lets face it a ssd is not that big

Another interesting thing is that unless you are using a 1080 or better, the 7700k isn't doing that much better. A 1070 being used levels the playing field between a 7700k at 4.8 and r7 at 4ghz

Very surprising thx for the info ....that 7700k is not doing good in the above ..
all hail AMD Ryzen smoothness

Does anybody know if this is Samsung or Hynix it comes up as single rank but can not find what ic brand it is without taking off the HS ..

G.SKILL F4-3200C14D-16GTZ got 4 sticks now

The G.Skill 3200Mhz C14 ram runs the Samsung B-Die, also for reference my G.Skill 3200 Mhz C16 is Hynix MFR and another G.Skill 3200 Mhz kit I've tested runs C16 is Hynix AFR.

My 3200 Mhz C14 kit should arrive this week, so I will be able to confirm that as well.

Any reason I'll regret a 1700 and Asus Prime X370-Pro bundle special, over getting what I want which is the MSI Carbon and 1700X?

I'm hoping a 1700 will be a nice boost from a 3570k.

Are Asus on the ball with bios updates for their boards?

Also I have a Noctua NH D14, will it fit on this board? And the ram I was going to get will be this. Will it fit underneath the cooler?
