*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

At the end of the day this = cheaper CPU's for everyone

This is very true. I think we're entering a fantastic era of CPU releases, where the consumer ends up getting quite a bit more performance for the same, or less, amount of cash.

I'll certainly be switching over the the 1700, but possibly holding out for Threadripper, if pricing and timing align.

The Ryzen 3 chips look like they'll be great value. I don't think the 1400/1500 is priced well given how much better the 1600 is, so it'll probably be get the best Ryzen 3 or spend more for the 1600.

That's precisely the crossroad I'm at right now with a build for my daughter. Luckily it's for her birthday in September, so I have a bit of time to see how things pan out with Ryzen 3 vs 5 vs used parts.

Man this Zen chip ia a beaut. Tops out around 40C under an AIO. Blisteringly fast, multitasking is a breeze. Combined with a GTX 1080 Ti, this is the best all round PC I have used. Who would have thought, AMD + Nvidia ftw xD

I came multiple times under fire because I wrote "My 6800K@4Ghz or the 1700X@4Ghz are faster to my old [email protected], even in single thread games like WOT & WoWs at 2560x1440 while running TS and internet radio streaming on the background or videos on the second monitor".

Because you're also doing it wrong, :D you're not supposed to run anything else while playing games, thats CPU Multitasking and we don't like Multitasking around here. It makes Intel's 4 core CPU's look bad.

But does your pc run Crysis in 720p with fps in thousands?
Your 1700X cannot even compete with intel i3.

Quick question about Ryzen - has it matured past it's initial teething problems yet? I'm thinking specifically about long boot times and ram compatibility? Any board considered the safest bet yet for stability and speed?
Cheers

AGESA 1.0.0.6 significantly improved RAM performance (hitting 3200+ MHz is no longer a big issue) but I have no idea about boot times or stability.
