*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Bigger dies means worse yields and even lower margins for AMD. And 3 CCXs will no doubt further increase the latency issues the current 2 CCXs design has.
Unless there's a proper source for that image then I'd consider it to be the regular fud we see prior to AMD launches, where a lot of unverified rumors get taken for granted.

Or are we forgetting the rumors prior to the recent Polaris, Ryzen and Vega product launches? Like the Ryzen supposedly running at 5Ghz on air, but after launch we found out that most chips can't even reach 4Ghz.

All the Vega leaks were saying it was gonna be crap and most people refused to believe them. We know how that turned out.

As for Ryzen, it has lived up to most leaks. This copy of a slide is also very different to a random author claiming Ryzen OCs to 5ghz.

As for further increasing latancy issues. They will be the same as it is simply Ryzen and another CCX, as the uncore speed will be the same if not faster. Software doesn't need to use it if it wants. The whole reason AMD created the Infinity Fabric is so that thay could do this without affecting yield as huge minolithic dies do. I doubt they are looking to auddenly switch back because some people overplay latency.

That Ryzen 2 thing can't be true. That would be an absolute earthquake of a release in the cpu sector.

5.1ghz boost 12 core, 24 thread cpu for $499!? It would make every cpu currently out (intel or AMD) completely worthless.

Are we sure that is not January 2019? That would be more believable.

Surely there is no chance of Ryzen 2 being released UNLESS they decided to rename Zen+ to Zen2. EXTREME skepticism here, and currently typing this from my paddling pool of brine.

More chances of david cameron coming back as PM and canceling BREXIT than that happening....

I thought the whole idea for Zen was it could be scaled up rather than this supposed complete redesign with 12 core chips.
Personally I don't buy it.

That would be around a 50% increase in single threaded performance which seems huge. It would require AMD to have better than CFL IPC and probably comparable boost clockspeeds too. Not sure if I can trust that score TBH,since GF 12NM is basically a modified version of their 14NM process. It would be nice if true, but until we get lots more leaks, which confirm it, I would say its better to be a bit dubious about it!!

When did you make the jump to Intel mate? Thought you where on Ryzen.

Hit and miss performance in games, cold boot issues. Not able to hit 144fps in games where intel can.
A lot of factors really and I don't regret it at all. I still have my crosshair mobo in case ryzen 2 ends up being something special. But this gen of ryzen isn't for me.

Re that 2600x bench, it could be true if the 4.2ghz identified is the base clock and AMD have managed to up clock speeds dramatically on 12nm. Could be 4.2 base and 4.8-5.0 boost or something. That would make it quiet believable if they have also improved IPC by 10-20% as well.

Still seems too good to be true.
