*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

When you say "they" don't support HDMI 2.0, do you mean Raven Ridge APUs or AM4 3xx chipsets? I'm pretty sure it's a chipset limitation, and I'm also pretty sure most AM4 4xx motherboards will have HDMI 2.0 support now that APUs actually exist.

Ryzen 7 doing very well in Final Fantasy XV, even better than a 7700K despite a 1Ghz Clock deficit.

I do wonder if this might become more common in gaming as the Ryzen architecture matures and more developers make their games with the Ryzen architecture in mind.

Certainly all Ryzen CPU's in this game are performing very well even with low clock rates.

Well that 1500 is overpriced too so yeah I'll take the faster 1030 with HDMI 2 support and that £100 i3 coffee quad core along with the cheaper coffee lake boards hitting soon.

well... we're gonna have Zen+ soon. Apples to apples my old fruit, or it's all just talking up your preferred bias :)

(aware that you're a rather dyed in the wool green+blue type ;) )

there's cheap boards for this GPU NOW.
There's hdmi2 on board's that'll probably still be cheap SOON.
It's got double the cores of the chip you're comparing it with...if we're talking HTPC it's basically minimum spec to mean a tick list of basic needs. The AMD offering can't help but be better value than Intels.

https://videocardz.com/74956/asrock-announces-bios-support-for-amd-desktop-ryzen-2000-series

ASRock is ready for Ryzen 2000. The company has provided BIOS updates for almost full AM4 motherboard lineup. The latest BIOSes support new AGESA code for upcoming Zen+ processors.

Those who decide to purchase Ryzen 2000 CPU and any of already existing ASRock’s Ryzen motherboards will need to go through a more complicated process, which requires not one BIOS update, but two.

Only X370 Taichi and Fatal1ty X370 Professional Gaming have not received Ryzen 2000-supporting BIOSes yet. Those are scheduled for February 9th. After that date, all ASRock’s AM4 motherboards will support Ryzen 2000.

The Bridge BIOS is required to make a smooth transition to Ryzen 2000, that’s only if you happen to buy a 300-series motherboard for your new processor.

So £150 for the 2400g for less than £60 gt 1030 performance. They don't even support HDMI 2 4k 60hz, so Htpc duties are limited. Too expensive.

£100 for an overclockable 4C 8T CPU is overpriced but £100 for a locked 3.6Ghz 4 Core 4 Thread CPU is not?

Having just come from a 4 core 4 thread 4.5Ghz Intel CPU i can tell you its a very very bad choice as a CPU for anything, including gaming, the Ryzen 1500 is much better.

Edit, actually looking at it i agree with Raven.
The Ryzen 1500 at £150 is too much money, way too much, i had no idea it was basically the same price as the 1600, that's a very strange pricing structure there AMD, current Ryzen 3's shouldn't exist, the 1400 and 1500X should be the £100 Ryzen 3's, its because you have an over bloated range that you have ended up with 4 SKU's all within a tenner of eachother.

You just wouldn't buy the 4 core 1400 or the 1500X with the 6 core 1600 at as near as makes no difference the same price.

The 1400 and 1500X are idiotic at this price point, they should be i3 competitors.

There is a reason for this. Remember that it is the same Ryzen dies used for the entire range. They can't sell the full Ryzen die at the i3 prices.

And yet they do, Ryzen 3 are the same as Ryzen 7, just with 4 cores and SMT disabled. ;)

What i'm saying is the 1400 and 1500X should have been Ryzen 3, 1200 and 1300 shouldn't exist.

What will probably happen from now on is 2200G and 2400G with disabled faulty iGPU's will end up 2'nd gen Ryzen 3 so AMD don't have to bin the 8 core chips below 6 cores.

Depends on the yields, if they have many, quite badly damaged dies, then Ryzen 3 1200 and 1300 justify their existence.
I think it isn't so much artificial segmentation to satisfy the demand in the lower tier.

Why would you want to get a Core i3 8100,when an overclockable Ryzen 3 2200G is $99,which equates to £86 at current exchange rates, and the AMD motherboards are cheaper. The IGP will destroy the locked Core i3 8100.

Plus the AMD stock cooler is better.

Intel postpones product launches
Internally, the problems of recent weeks at Intel have already caused the shifts of new products. New CPUs and motherboards now without the right patches to publish, would probably only pour oil into the fire, so the upcoming launches are once exposed. Of these, in addition to the new NUCs with Gemini Lake and Kaby Lake-G probably also affected Coffee Lake , whose second wave of CPUs and motherboards is already in the starting blocks. For CES 2018 , these were already behind closed doors to see whether the known date of late Q1 or April can be held, but now remains questionable.

Yeah I would be paring the 8100 with the faster 1030 with its 2GB of dedicated ram, much faster than the 2200G. Cheaper coffee mobos hitting the end of this month.

You keep saying "cheaper mobo's soon". There's another entire line of AMD stuff "soon".
Still no answer as to why you'd spend more to get less.

You should see on AT forums, some Intel fans are so terrified of the Ryzen 3 2200G,they want to on purpose ignore the fact the Core i3 8100 sucks for gaming on the IGP.

They keep pushing "cheaper boards" although there is no apparent release date for them.

This is even though Intel has admitted their graphics is rubbish and bought AMD GPUs and hired Raja Koduri.

Edit!!

Ok this is getting a bit stupid now, an i3 8100 + GT 1030 is £160, the 2200G is £90, at most.

If you want to use that argument get a Ryzen 2200G and a GTX 1050, the GTX 1050 is twice as fast as the GT 1030, £190.

2200G is weak sauce man, talking about the 2400G.

Still better than the Core i3 8100,which unfortunately for you can't run anything well. That is why you need a GT1030.

The Core i3 8100 is weaksauce, and why the priced has starting dropping.

Your Core i3 8100 is crap, beaten by a £60 AMD BD based APU.

Or do we want to use facts here and I can point out dozens of games, where even a Core i5 8400 IGP is hammered by sometimes up 2 times(or more). There are videos showing this by many channels.

Even in FIFA2018,the Intel IGPs suck arse.

2200G is weak sauce man, talking about the 2400G. Plus the i3 kills the Zens in gaming.

Absolute worst case scenario is Grand theft Auto V and in that the 8100 is 15% ahead of the Ryzen 3's on a GTX 1080TI

Your arguments are turning into straw madness, the GTX 1050 is a fraction of the 1080TI, on a GTX 1050 and much higher than that the performance on the Ryzen 3 and 8100 is identical.

Who the hell is gaming on an Intel IGPU? These RR APUs are too expensive. If AMD does not want to sink back to 2% market share they better start competing on price.

Competing on price?! What are you smoking?! :D

Can you put together a reasonable thrust of an argument?

No one games on Intel iGPU's because they are absolute junk!

That is where AMD's £90 Ryzen Vega APU's come in, you can game on them, and by can i mean 60 FPS 1080P Rocket League, Overwhatch, stuff like that.....
