*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

ASUS today announced that its complete lineup of AM4-socket-based motherboards now offer support for the first Zen architecture-based AMD Ryzen desktop processors with Radeon Vega graphics Accelerated Processing Units (APUs), via a BIOS update that's available immediately. These all-new AMD Ryzen 2000 Series APUs combine up to four Zen-based CPU cores with integrated Radeon Vega graphics. When used in combination with ASUS AMD AM4 Series motherboards, AMD Ryzen 2000 Series APUs offer great-value performance and deliver best-in-class gaming and graphics experiences.

Existing owners of ASUS AM4-socket motherboards can update their systems quickly and easily with the intuitive ASUS USB BIOS Flashback or ASUS EZ Flash 3 tools. In addition, an updated graphics driver - available from the ASUS support website - pushes the integrated AMD Radeon graphics to new performance heights for best-ever visual and gaming experiences with AMD Ryzen 2000 Series APUs.

Which ones?
Maybe the APU will work in Hybrid CrossFire with another AMD graphics card.

Both STRIX ITX and ROG CH6

They'd still work, but not really much point in getting an APU if you're going to use a dedicated GPU. Just thought it was funny that's all.

Now that's something I haven't heard in a long while.

I'd definitely check first. This http://uk.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-AB350-Gaming-rev-1x#support-cpu was my mobo and as you can see BIOS does determine CPU compatibility. I couldn't get anything from a 1600 until a BIOS update.

Had the mATX version of that board with a 1500X with the F3 BIOS, but it booted up fine so I could flash F7 which had proper support for the R5.

Same as well for my K7, it was originally on the F2 BIOS but it still allowed me to flash to a later one with proper support.

Just a black screen for me until OCUK updated the bios for me.

AFAIK,there was noise about some motherboards having issues with Ryzen 5 soon after it was launched but I would certainly hope that motherboards have newer BIOS revisions now!!

Also,a large retailer in Spain has the Ryzen 2200G for 96 Euro and the Ryzen 5 2400G for 153 Euro, and Spain has 21% VAT too. So that equates to £85 and £135 in the UK,unless our retailers jack up the pricing!!
