*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

I suspect wccftech has direct sources from AMD and its AMD's first priority website where to leak new informations. Like it or not.

Better start believing :D

AMD's next-gen 'Rome' EPYC CPU on 7nm could feature 64C/128T
Die1: Single CCX 6 core, each Die 12 core, single CPU maximum 48 core
Die2: Single CCX 8-core, each Die 16 core, single CPU maximum 64 core

6 and 8 cores chips with a quality GPU and HBM in 100~ watt package. Yes please.

The most you'll likely get from Zen 2 is a 6c/12t APU in something like an "R5 3400G". I wouldn't expect the iGPU to be any better than what comes with the R5 2400G though, unless they also use a die shrink on the GPU part but who knows.

This is all very reminiscent of the push towards 64bit. AMD are pushing the number of cores upward, but who will come out on top? Should be very interesting to see how it all plays out.

The customers and everyone of us who get a lot of power at affordable prices, like never before. Between AMD and Intel, right now the prospects say AMD will come on top. Finally, after all these years and battles.

If they actually do end up with a 12 core AM4 CPU early next year while Intel is only just about to roll out 8 core CPUs for the midrange later this year then that'll be some serious competition.

Issue is though, I still see a lot of prebuilt systems and laptops using Intel. Even tried to find some 2200U/2300U laptops for a friend but there's none in the UK...

This is Intel Partner Program.

I have found a solution for my problem. There are no Ryzen/Radeon laptops with Ultra HD 4K displays.
I will buy Asus GL702ZC GL702ZC-GC206T or Asus GL702ZC GL702ZC-GC179T that are with Full HD displays, disable its integrated screen and use with an external 4K monitor.

Internal Naff Toothpaste Ended Life - thats whats written on the tombstone of many a overclocked and cooked intel cpu :eek:

The places where Intel processors (8700K) are bad are the following:

- Half of the transistors are part of an integrated graphics which never gets used. They pay for something, half of which they never use;
- The thermal paste between the silicon die and the integrated heat spreader is of lower quality, resulting in the rise of operating temperatures, negatively influencing the life of the silicon transistors;
- In the box, they don't even get a proper cooler, it is either one suitable for up to ~35W processors, or they lack one altogether.

So, in the end, customers pay more than for equivalent competition's processors, but get lower quality at all possible levels.
