I gave figures for official releases prices. Because you brought for less doesn't change the official RRP of either product. All that says is you might be able to buy cheaper on release for this series too. But relooking at your post you are comparing 3600 (non X) to 5600x. Different sku at different price point. The equivalent 3600x was $239. There is no 5600 to compare to that.

Again you are not looking at the TDP ratings. The Ryzen 5 5600X is a 65W TDP part. Previous X series were 95W TDP parts. The Ryzen 5 5600X is the Ryzen 5 3600 replacement pushed up a tier. There will be a 95W TDP Ryzen 5 5600XT which is the true Ryzen 5 3600X replacement. AMD did the same with the Ryzen 7 3700X,which replaced the Ryzen 7 2700 and the Ryzen 7 3800X which replaced the Ryzen 7 2700X.
 
Meh.

There isn't really a good upgrade path for my 3700x as there isn't a 5700x sku yet. It would mean having to fork out another $120 for the 5800x over what i paid for my 3700x on release, for what is basically another 8 core CPU.

I would also have to fork out for another motherboard as I don't believe they X370 boards will get support.

Think i will wait to see if a cheaper 8 core is released, it's not like my current PC is struggling.

And with the price hikes on the CPUs, I'm not holding much hope for a decent price for their GPUs now either.

Still isn't relevant though. You are changing sku to give a worse example of price increase to suit your argument. Not actually using figures given to you. The fact there is no sku that is a non-X doesn't change that you should be comparing the samek sku. Otherwise you might as well compare an K chip to the K chip of Intel and claim the same which you don't do either.

And if the missing SKUs stay missing?

What 5000 series 6-core CPU will 3600 non-X users be able to upgrade to, that isn't 50% more expensive?

Using a "to me" reasoning is just pointless because that's not what is happening. If that's the case why not compare a 5800X to a 3700X, 2700X or a 1700? They are all 8 core parts.
 
Don't think you can really compare prices, but if you do at least compare the % performance increase against the % price between them.
 
what a disappointment in the low end, $100 more for x600 and they box in the crappy stealth cooler. AMD are also offering far cry 6 for free but only with 5800x and above, on top of that according to Gamers Nexus there won't be a non-x version for the 5600x either.

Put that all together and 5600x looks like poor value.

That is still irrelevant to the actual increase at the SKU base. I get completely what you are saying but that is not the same as a direct price increase of SKU but an upgrade increase cost. They are different.
 
I wanted a 3950X originally, then decided to wait for the 5950X. I wanted them to be a bit cheaper, but a $50 increase isn't a big deal.

You gone get mobbed by the AMD fans for saying that :p "Can't compare" "not the same" "best launch ever" "marry me Lisa" etc :p

Effectively there is no low end now. £300 and up if you want to buy an AMD CPU. £450 if you want 8-core.

It’s the same chip just with a letter on the end. This is Intel practises and I don’t care very much for it. I don’t buy Intel because they are too expensive, I don’t buy Nvidia because they are too expensive and now Amd have lost a sale from me by following Intel and Nvidia’s pricing strategy. £300 is too expensive for a 6 core, I’ll wait and buy second hand when Zen 4 is released.

You can't release a new product that is 25% faster than its predecessor and charge 25% more for it else you'll never end up getting better price to performance and if they continued that trend prices would be astronomical!
