AMG GT R - Der Tag

Beautiful car

I think this is my next car. I’ve test driven a few “potentials” recently, and all have left me feeling a little underwhelmed, mainly because the C63 is just such a damn good car that the bar has been set really high.

But the more I test drive other stuff, the more I come back to the idea of either a GT R or a GT63s, with the latter being the more practical and “sensible” option given I have 2 kids. Every time I see these though, they just get better and better. Pictures do not do them justice

I’ll keep the C63 for a couple of years yet I think unless something miraculous happens with the used car market prices or GT R prices in general
Have you driven the GT R specifically?

Not driven any of the GT cars yet. When I said I’ve test driven a few potentials, I meant non-Mercedes cars, although a new Vantage is basically a Mercedes car now :D

It’s on my to do list but the few times I’ve enquired with my two local dealerships, they never have any in or the stock they have is pre facelift

Drive a GTC and GTR, great cars, I'd always got GTR for the menacing looks and personally in HELL Green. :D

This was the video provided by the dealer to the person I bought the car off before he bought it. I had to replace the music with musak due to copyright n stuff.

He did me a video for me, which I will share in due course but explains why I bought the car and how fastidious he was.

And this is the video provided by the dealer to me and shows what a fantastic example it was and why I needed to buy the car, which I did the same day I got the video!

Love the car, love it.

@Housey How do you find power delivery this time of year now that it’s cold, damp and salted slippery roads? Do you put winter tyres on?

Coming from a RWD car it’s been refreshing having an AWD car that doesn’t seem to break traction, other than a few days ago when I took off over a bump  - even with cold and fairly worn tyres it somehow sticks.

I've had the car for over 10,000 miles now so am very comfy with it but it is a proper handful on cold, damp and mucky roads and needs respect. However you can slide it around traffic islands and slide it around easily and safely due to the clever TC. You have to careful at all legal speeds giving it full beans in said conditions as it will light up the rears, even at 70mph.

Will be getting something else to sit alongside it soon, roads of late are disgusting so need something that doesn't make me wince all the time when the road gets stone filled or mucky.

What are your thoughts on the F series M4?
I think they evolved to be decent. I took one out when they first came out, it felt a step up in performance but also inside was a bit cheap I felt. Never really got on with it, didn't feel it was special enough, oddly. I have driven a couple since M4/3 and liked them more. Represent OK value right now I think and the looks have grown on me too.

So, in another one of my 'oh **** I am getting old' moments....

It seems my Sat Nav/Command Media screen is borked, but that is nothing to do with SD card. In my head I had thought I once removed it and the screen stopped, so when it stopped again and the screen was blank I put 2 and 2 together and got 34249029238083204832 when there was not card in the slot. I am still convinced I did this, but even without said SD card (or my imagined one) it should work.

So booked in to Macclesfield Mercedes to diagnose and fix the screen issue.

Question: Anyone know if you can reboot/reset Mercedes Command in my car WITHOUT access to the screen. So think a combination of button presses etc?

Disconnect the battery for ten minutes?
