AMG GT R - Der Tag

Car goes in to Macclesfield Mercedes next week for work on the Sat Nav issue. Saw a review today that called out the Mercedes AMG GT as THE most unreliable supercar......https://www.newsweek.com/15-most-un...tVkf4vLDXC3EPFNlYxVz4OCu7SFKJtJCMaIy9q2VlYYtU

Mine has been temperamental, nothing show stopping, just niggles. It looks a terribly click baiting type to list thing too.

With the Mercedes I’ve owned over the years, that doesn’t surprise me.

The list of things that didn’t work or had been repaired on my AMG when I sold it:
  • Exhaust flaps
  • Auto wipers
  • Windscreen washers
  • Passenger door lock
  • Bonnet latch fell out
  • ABS sensors failed
  • Heater temporarily stopped heating

Most of these failed quite early into ownership. You’d hope at the highest end they’d be more reliable. That’s not to say many other manufacturers have been much better.

One of these was stolen off a nearby road last night. No idea why you wouldn’t do at least several of

- keep key in a faraday pouch
- have a tracker on it
- have a steering lock

Especially if it’s kept on the road! Step 1 probably would have avoided this.

It'll be on its way to Dubai most likely..

TBH though, would you really want them breaking into your house looking for the key, etc?

Must have heard it as they don’t do quiet

I head off to Macclesfield Mercedes first thing this morning to get my Sat Nav screen fixed, which failed on New Years day and you guessed it......15 minutes into the journey the screen comes on and starts working. The SD card thing was a (brain fart) red herring and now it's all working again. Temperamental electronics and couple of people have said they had the same issues with similar tech in their Mercedes of similar age.

Slippy roads this morning, hooligan all the way back home. Ace.

Since owning the car I have had the following issues:

1: Suspension malfunction (Day 2) - Needed new suspension monitors fitting, 2 x day job, £4500 all done under warranty.
2: Intermittent traction control /stability errors (4 or 5 times since owning) which tend to occur when I am turning in tight spots, so sensors related. I turn off and on and all works again fine, nothing logged.
3: Tyre sensor went off on one, telling me flat tyres etc when all were fine. Only happened once.
4: Sat Nav screen stopped working, all went blank. Backlight, but no picture. Came on again this morning as it became scared as I drove it towards the garage for a telling off.

That's crazy; I keep looking at GTS (can't afford a GTR!); but hearing reports like this makes me think twice - that and the gf wants to move house..... :shakesfist:

With my A45, literally nothing has gone wrong with it so far, 4 years (touch wood); Not missed a beat. Guess t hat means an inherent problem with the platform I presume?

Only an absolute IDIOT would drive an AMG GTR without an MOT and be so stupid that he only realised when he came to tax it…..for 9 months without an MOT too. Chavs the lot of them with their illegal road cars.

Yours

Idiot

MOT sorted in 2 hours, thanks Fairway Motors Rugeley who also let me get under the car to have a proper nose too.

Will upload a video of said nose.

:D

I managed 11 months without a pull in an old Escort 1.8TD sans MOT, the dealer I bought it from forgot to test it and I never bothered to check…

It passed anyway in the end…. :o :D

Guilty as charged the derision fair.

Also the video I was making didn’t work so can’t upload that either. Just a black screen.
