An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

Another question:
How much (side)quests are there roughly in Oblivion?

Approximately 251,459.

:D

No idea, but absolutely TONNES.

I have a question:

Why should I buy a house? I'm finding I've got more money than I know what to do with lately (in Oblivion, not real life sadly).

If you buy a house then you can store things in it, theres a few mods out also like the mannequin ( can put your armour/clothes on it) and the thing for the map that shows where your houses are (a god send that one) which make life a bit simpler when u have a house

Thanks.

Bought a house in Cheydinhal (sp?), and downloaded the House Markers mod.

I can see how it's useful now - there's lots of things you wanna keep, but don't want to carry round all the time.

Thought of a idea in Oblivion...your house gets broken into and nice items stolen, a quest to hunt down a find the thief and your possesions.

btw tried Oblivion on a 3700+ single core, and played on my machine. Mine has a juddery lag for a split second every 30 seconds or so when running around the forest.

This is probably due to audio software on your computer affecting oblivion - when I first got the game the same thing happened until a uninstalled a program (can't remember what).

Check it out. :)

It depends upon the circumstances. I also use Umbra quite a lot, but the Sigil stones are also levelled and can be used to create some pretty powerful items - +50 magicka, +10 Strength or +25 shock damage and so on. Shock weapons are very useful again Daedra and Dremora. I've just completed a quest and found that the guy I killed in combat dropped 573 Daedric arrows and hundreds of Glass, Elven and Silver ones! I'm not sure what I'd get at lower levels!

Other useful stuff at higher levels are the Amulet of Swords (+25 Blade and 33% Reflect damage), Amulet of Axes (+25 Blunt and 33% Reflect damage) and the Mundane Ring (50% Magic resistance and 35% Reflect Spell). It's great watching an opponent hit you and then fall over :)

Daedric Armour is about 25% better than the Ebony equivalent - eg. Ebony Cuirass gives base armor of 15, Daedric is 18.75

Even without Sigil stones, you only need to soul trap for 1 sec on strike to gain the same fundamental advantage as Umbra, then you can use the rest of your soul energy on elemental damage (for example)...

+20 fire
+15 lightning
+15 frost
Soul trap 1 sec on strike

Home grown goodness.

Why do some weapons (like an enchanted axe I looted) only have a 1x damage multiplier when sneaking when others have a 6x multiplier?

I think you only get the multiplier if you use a one handed or long range weapon so if it is a two handed axe it would be only 1x.

You don't get the sneak damage multiplier with two-handed weapons.

Edit - didn't spot the last post.

what are the minimum system requirements for this game?

n/m googled it.
As always beware when deciding how it will run, most of the time you need the recommended system specs to get it tor run half decent.

Sure it will run on lower spec systems but you need to sacrifice a lot of IQ to get it to run acceptable.

i'm on a fairly low end system, so there's no way i'll meet recommended.

i don't care about things like resolution, aa and all the unnecassary pretty effects, so might be able to get it running ok-ish.

There are a lot of settings you can change and I would start by lowering resolution and turn off HDR/Bloom and leave the draw distance intact.
