An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

I went to game to buy oblivion on launch. Didn't like it at all. It's the only game i've played where you're punished for levelling. Add in the trudge of the gates, glowing potato people and terrible mini games. The only reason it's not my least favourite elder scrolls game is daggerfall.

Would this be a good game for someone who's never played any elder scrolls games?

Depends. Assuming that the mechanics stay the same, it's rather old-fashioned. Gear wear and tear is still a thing, so repairs are constantly required. There are a load of governing stats that need certain skills to improve before the base stats can be increased to any useful degree. Those of us who played will remember bunny-hopping everywhere to build up athletics and acrobatics. And even if you are a mage or archer you still need to practice heavy armour or blocking or your endurance will be low. And how high your endurance is sets the amount of HP you get at each level. Etc.

If you play old-school RPGs then this a pretty good place to start (although Morrowind is better), but if you are used to more modern games I'd start with Skyrim. Skyrim drops all the underlying stats (and wear) and you just play how you want.

Not exactly, although I get your point. Yes, you need to be careful what skills you level or enemies will quickly outpace you. Of course, you could always stay awake so that your skills rise, but no-one levels...

As for the gates, I once closed 54 in one game. Then I never did the MQ ever again.

I always left the main quest to the end, I had Martin following me most of the time. That way I left the gates till end game.

I remember getting the posh boxed version of Oblivion (as I loved Morrowind so went all out for the next game), and loved having the nice printed map and metal septim. I still have the map but no idea where the coin went (I've moved several times) whichmakes me sad.

I may wait for
1. reviews to discuss what (if anything) they've changed
2. The price.
3. If it even exists :)

If they have just 'remastered' the game, it's gonna feeel OOOLDDDD!!!! :(:(:(

So old, that reminds me.. I had to buy a new graphics card to run it... so it inspired me to have a look through my photo archive... and I found it!

Ladies and gentlemen, the XFX Geforce 7800GS, it ran in an AGP slot

I just asked X Box support, they said there is nothing official.

But they did say to check back at 5pm.

I'm going to have to lug my tower to my dads house, i can only get 26mb, he gets 600.
