An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

Curio, can you post a couple of screen shots? non spoiler ones i.e forest areas etc, along with your specs, or did you get the 360 version?

cheers :)

*edit-Just remembered you had to install it so it's the PC version!

it says "Our coverage has concluded"

Here I am :p Well my plans for an all-night session didn't come to pass due to a splitting headache I'd had all day :( So I've really only played through the first section and had a mess around with the settings to try and find what's "playable" on my system (in sig). I tried to get some screenshots but it doesn't seem to want to do it for some reason.....I'll have another try in a bit :)

I'm playing at 1024x768...

Firstly, I thought they said you could have HDR and AA together in this game? It doesn't let you - it specifically says you can't have both if you try and select them

To be honest, my machine wouldn't be able to cope with both on anyways. HDR looks very nice but, of course, it really hammers the frame rate big time. So I'm trying to decide if I want no AA and HDR.....or get rid of the jaggies but lose a lot of the nice effects.

So far at least, it doesn't seem to be a RAM hog. I'm getting no disk thrashing in large outdoor areas. Hope it stays that way.

It's difficult to say how it will run at the moment. I've only just scratched the surface - I might get into town and find the whole thing slows to a crawl as it tries to apply HDR to all the buildings. Also, I've only played at night in the game......with not many trees around......once I hit a forrest during the day and it has to start drawing shadows left & right it might also come to a crashing halt :D

Should that be case, that I can't use both HDR and AA simultaneously, I'll probably go with AA. Infact I doubt I'll use HDR anyway, should it be possible.

I've never really liked the look of HDR. It doesn't make a game look any better IMO. I don't like the blurred, unclear perspective that comes with it.

From what I've heard HDR is also largely over-used in this game, much like in Fable on the Xbox.

nO}{8, there's a facegen in the construction set that should contain everything the devs used (though this feature requires the game to be installed). so even if any missing in-game options don't allow you to get it spot on, you may well be able to make a plug in that replace's the player face with a version that was created in the CS..

it's all looking very good, the game and editor.. we should see some great mods/plugins over the comming years.

Lanz, there's some 6800gt user feedback here..
