An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

Yeah, we have all seen the videos and imagined how good its going to be and then realised that even with a grand to spend on upgrades it still probably wont look as good as the vids.

Graphics aside for a moment..... the AI is going to be unreal in this game and nothing this complex and intelligent has ever been done before, your talking about every single NPC in the game having there own goals and a 24hr regime to complete and how they go about doing this is up to them and will probably be different each time, the sheer fact that you will be able to stalk an NPC, figure out his/her routine and then choose a time to rob there home based on your findings is fantastic.

Even if this game doesnt run how you would like it..... I think once you have been immersed into this game you will have forgotten all about the graphics and be wondering what we were all worrying about.

........... but yes of course it would be very nice to be able to run it anywhere close to the quality of those vidcaps :D

It's easy to get it looking like the vids with a grand to spend.

Buy a 360 :p

I would never buy on 360 for one reason - CONTROLS! I just cannot control an FPS with a controller!

www.gamingsteve.com - on his preview he mentions it is quite difficult to fire your bow and arrows or fireball on flying creatures which are moving quite fast! And he recommends the mouse/keyboard combo!

Doubtful there are many people with a grand to spend just to run oone game!!!! especially not me (in the middle of buying my first house)

Agreed with regards to the XBox 360, FPS just dont work on consoles..... never have and never will.... no matter how weird and wonderful they make the pads look!

No I don't have grands to spend on one game, I do have a grands worth of computer already which should do the job :)

One thing about the 360. To get it looking like it does in those vids you would need an HDTV right? Assuming you'll want it in your living room so a regular TFT wouldn't suffice. So that's roughly £300 for the 360 and about £700 for a decent HDTV. Well that's about the amount my PC cost. So saying it's cheaper to get it on the 360 is assuming you already have a decent TV to play it on. I'm sure a lot of people don't already have one so it's a moot point. But you might say you can still play it on 360 with a normal TV. Well that's true but you can also play it on a lower spec PC with some of the eye candy turned off.

As a huge fan of Morrowind I am certain that this follow up will not dissapoint...... this game is just on a whole new level, nothing is going to be able to compare to this for a couple of years at least.

Game of the year easily....... they may aswell send Bethesda the award now :D

just preordered the Collectors edition, I want that 100+ page guide :)

I can safely say I have never been intrested in any RPG game before, this will be my first, and its become one of my most awaited games ever :)

Just 24 days to go!

Rubbish! There have been some great FPS games on consoles and with a bit of practise you can get the accuracy up to a decent level. Not as sharp as keyboard and mouse I'll admit, but certainly enough to play most games confortably.

Where did u hear that? Every game ive tried does both very nicely!

The problem is with how HDR is implemented. It can either be Integer (SM2.0) or FP16 (SM3.0).

My understanding is that nVidia hardware uses the same stage of the pipeline for both FP16 and for AA, so although it is capable of doing either, it cannot do both at the same time.

The exception is when a game uses the inferior Integer (SM2.0) HDR implementation (such as the Lost Coast demo).

From what I've read even the top end cards would struggle performance-wise doing both AA and FP16 HDR, so it's a bit of a non-problem really as even if the hardware could do it, it'd be too slow.

I don't think this problem affects ATI cards.
