An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

My copy is arriving in the morning, however i discovered earlier today that X1900XT's do not come with a molex to PCIe adapter, meaning i won't be able to play it until friday anyway.

Probably for the best as i know i'd want to pull an all nighter tomorrow night meaning missing work on friday, which aint good.

How does oblivion cope on the 6600gt. Im hoping the game will look pretty good as I promised i'd only upgrade when UT2007 comes out

Medium settings, at 1024x768, seems pretty smooth. Also got 1Gb of RAM and a A64 3000+ :o .

Quite surprised by it's smoothness. But i'm not too fussy when it comes to graphics.

Have not heard much mention about the gameplay, dont mind running it on low everything 800 x 600 if the gameplay is godlike.

Whats the gamplay like people!?

Already said earlier in the thread that Gameplay emails on today should mean you get your game tommorrow.

I went with someone else, as it was £5 cheaper at the time, so I am hoping that it comes tommorrow, if not it will be friday :)

Id love to see it but the status didnt change on the site until very late in the day then the email nearly on thursday itself doesnt help lol. Anyway off to bed so I'll just have to wait and see :)

Gameplay is great and is very much like Morrowind although I am already finding my quest hard to complete, its the one with the Merchant in the Imperial city, no spoilers from me.

lol, just been browsing some oblivion fansite forums and i realised something. Spending a lot of time on here seriously screwes your perception of what is a 'Standard Spec' machine.

Example: ES official forum - Topic: Poor framerate on powerful computer.

Post= Hi guys, i dont understand why im getting choppyness in this game. I set everything to 'High' and it runs REAL slow. even dropping it to medium doesnt help. Dont know whats wrong could be a driver issue? Spec is

P4 2.9Ghz
Nvidia fx5600
1gig ram

Plz help.

i man lol, yeah ill help, take out the gfx card and put it up your... you get the picture. I mean seriously, in some other threads people were considering upgrading TO a 9800pro!?!?! i mean wtf planet do these guys live on? no wonder Oblivions been getting bad/frustrated press, these people are about £1000 short of what this game needs to even run half decent!

just thought id remind us all of how wonderfully overspecced we are on these boards :D

LOL the official forums are full of cry-babies. "whaaaa - the font in the menus is too big whaaaaa"......"whaaaa pop ups totally ruin the game"....."whaaaa I was expecting the holodeck from Star Trek". Pathetic bunch of whingers

This game blows my mind. It's simply staggering. The screenshots don't even begin to do it justice - they don't show the clouds moving along, trees gently swaying and utterly lump-in-the-throat sunrises/sunsets. I was playing earlier and it started to cloud up - I thought "wow - it actually looks like it's raining in the distance there.....that would be cool". A couple of mins later it started raining  Yes, there are some graphics related issues.....but honestly, it's still the best looking game ever made and any little problems just aren't worth mentioning. And yes, you need a pretty hefty PC to see it as it should be seen - I would say my spec (in sig) in the minimum if you want to enjoy the graphics.

And the game itself is solid - I'm not very far into it yet, but I'm totally engrossed. There are a few little niggles with the interface here and there, but nothing a patch or two can't sort out. I really don't understand the level of bitching this has caused.....more pathetic bleating over not very much.

Instant classic for me. And I've been gaming for over 20 years.

ROFL, that sums up a lot of people.

personally It amuses me when people tell you "my computer is very powerful, it cost £1500 a year ago, it's a pentium one!" one look at the specs and you know they were ripped off a year ago.

Took sodding ages to download from D2D, had to leave it overnight (on a 3MB connection  )

The zip file is sitting on my PC at home and I'm in work. Brought the manual file in on a memory key to read, but I can't cos it tries to access the internet to confirm DRM, which our firewall stops.

Not impressed with these Direct2Drive folks at all :(

Tell me about it.

Just upped my PSU last night to a Hiper 580w Modular connector one

No real reason, just ease of mind lol

lol, well turns out a 9200se aint the best card for it, the screens all white, i can pick out a few objects but it looks a bit like a negative, ive tried editing the ini and altering other parts of the graphics. it has a tendency to crash to desktop too. i need to somehow set the texture size to medium, when i do it ingame it CTD's without applying the change. anyone know much about the ini?

It has just arrived! Wehey!!!
