An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

I can't seem to disable Vsync for some reason. The FRAPS counter is always locked at either 60 or 30, nothing inbetween. I have tried enabling "triple buffering" but it still won't give any inbetween readings. Any ideas?

At least you know that in those screenies of mine the FPS was always between 30-60. :)

Fair enough GordyR, looks better on your machine but still not like I was expecting.

Maybe I'll just have to see it with my own eyes.

The landscape looks as desolate in those shots!

Hope mine looks more like GordyR's :D (high spec apart from a 6800, so oughta be on high I think)

As I said before I think some peoplke have forgotten the limitations of our current hardware, sure the game could look nicer but it wouldn't be playable for another 6mths to a year I want it now :D

What on earth were you expecting chap?!

Just look at the detail on the sword in Gordy's then look at the screenies they have on the Elder Scrolls site, where has the detail gone?

Don't get me wrong it looks bloody good but I can't help feeling like they've got my hopes up too much.

As far as the sword details go it helps if you have a nice sword, not some cheap piece of junk like you start off with. The gfx look great even on my pc which as you can see is pretty old, I think the 2Gb of ram helps a lot though. I will try and post some screenshots soon and use FRAPS.

Roger that, maybe I'm being a bit harsh on the game :)

It's just given the fact I was going to spend serious cash on a new machine I wanted to be sure I wasn't wasting money.

As Viral said mate the sword I have is pretty much your bog standard heap of junk you start with. I picked it up pretty early on. I'm sure the swords will look better as we progress through the game.

Anyway... I managed to sort out the Vsync issue, I was being a muppet and had it forced on in the Nvidia control panel. As expected with the settings I listed my FPS were hovering between 30-60. There was a couple of points when it dipped in to the high 20's but only when looking out over miles of scenery. I don't think it ever went below 28 though.

All the action and battles tend to happen in more enclosed areas when the FPS is around the 50 mark. If I notice any chugging in the future I may drop the AA down to 2x but so far it is has been smooth as a babies bum.

Those screenshots look gorgeous. :)

Still less than 24 hours to go :( I wish I could forward time.

Hey I'm patient though. I dont mind running my game at low settings. My first test of this going to be on the actual loading times.

Damn that sword texture looks a little crap(the blade).

Not looked at the oblivion shots yet, dont want to spoil anything about that.

Thanks for the screens.

How does oblivion cope on the 6600gt. Im hoping the game will look pretty good as I promised i'd only upgrade when UT2007 comes out

itll struggle at anything over 800*600 or 1024*768 at low/mid settings I imagine.

Im running Oblivion at 800x600 on my 9800XT 3000+ @ 2.3 with maxed out settings. Game is stunning.

Can you imagine what the modders are going to do with it?!
