An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

Well after a weeks worth of gameplay and 55 hours in I finally decided to finish the main story, very impressed but slightly disapointed at the aftermath and lack of information as to whats going to happen next. Finished it with the full daedra set of weapons and armor, and umbra, very cool. Graphics card upgrade half way through made it nice too. Certainly can't complain at paying 25 quid for 55 hours so far, and no doubt more to come since I've still got mages guild to grand master.

Bit bored of it now,

The land doesn't feel as big as I imagined, it seems dwarfed in comparision to Morrowind. Stories and Characters are great, atmosphere good. Perhaps some mod out there will remake Morrowind on the Oblivion engine.

It feels slightly bigger than Solstein (Ice land from Morrowind). I think my interest will be renewed if they unlock all the additional lands tagged around. If you look at the map of Morrowind and the size of it and compare that to the map of Cyridol it seems a bit off scale.

:(

Been going through the Brotherhood quests and have got to the one where I have to stab someone with a special dagger (staged), but I can't get into his house as I only have 4 picks and its a very hard lock! :(

So I've decided to join the fighters guild (until I can get some picks and some spells to make the lock easier!) but I've got a bounty of 40 :( Where can I pay this off without losing everything? (Yes its mostly stolen).

Ta.

PS. Where can I buy picks?

If you use the 'slow tumbler' method of lockpicking you should be able to get through the entire game on a handful of picks regardless of your Security skill. It takes a bit of practice to master it but after that no lock should be a problem.

If you are not sure what I mean I will try to explain it; just ask.

I just find my mouse doesn't respond fast enough to slide across to the next tumbler! I find it quite laggy.

Noob, question. Only started playing Oblivion a day ago and already i've picked up dozens of pearls, gem stones and valuables. Can i sell them? If so where?

Thanks

I have an idea which may improve the game...why not try doing something? I find the game much more enjoyable when I do! :)

btw is there a way to recharge your own magical items? It's quite pricey otherwise!

Any general store will buy them, they usually have a cloth bag as a sign over their shop

Varla gems you find in elven ruins recharge all items in your inventory

there may be other ways but im not 100% sure

I'm not sure what you mean, I think we may be at crossed puposes here :)

I was referring to the method of watching the speed the individual tumblers within the barrel rise when you nudge them into place with your mouse. If you watch them carefully you will see that they rise at differing speeds, this relates exactly to the speed they will drop out of posistion again: the faster it goes up, the faster it comes back down.

Now, with a little careful practice and observation you can learn to spot the 'slow tumbler' rise and thus give yourself the best chance (ie when the tumbler remains in the desired posistion for longest) to hit your LMB/spacebar.

As I say, it takes a little time to master but once learnt lickpicking becomes a doddle.

I hope that makes sence :)

Soul Gems are your best bet I think, assuming you can cast spells to cap the souls.

Soul gems can be used too but they must be charged with souls. You can get spells or enchanted weapons that can capture souls.

EDIT: beaten to it :p

Is there any way to distract guard/make them look another way? The number of times I've been stuck in a dark corner for 20 minutes with a guard looking straight at me is ridiculous! I've tried firing arrows into the walls around him but that didn't work :(

I understand this, however, I may be having hardware issues, as the reponse time is painfully slow - click LMB, wait and then response. Might update my mouse drivers. Security level is around 60 too, so tend to auto-resolve currently.

Also, is there a list of light armour types - I've got full leather, but was wondering what the next step up is?

Edit: Found something, now wished I'd stolen the chainmail from some castle I stumbled across somewhere.

-ARMOR TYPES------------
Fur/Iron 1
Leather/Steel 3
Chainmail/Dwarven 6
Mithril/Orcish 10
Elven/Ebony 15
Glass/Daedric 20

-WEAPON TYPES-----------
Iron 1
Steel 2
Silver 4
Dwarven 6
Elven 9
Glass 12
Ebony 16
Daedric 20

I played it for the first time last night and I enjoyed it, even though I am still getting used to the number of keys etc.

I think it completely fragged my pc though as I didnt restart after the installation and windows refused to even get to the loading bar this morning and on a safe mode start under restore yesterday was listed as an installation of Direct X 9!!! Which I know was already working.

Oh joy, when i get home at 9pm tonight i have to go through all the chaff of making sure everything else is ok.

(PS I dont remember there being an optoin on the install regarding re-doing DX9 , on some recent games you get a little tick box - that i have previously cleared - but not so with oblvion?)

I have a Mx1000 which also seems to lag during lock picking, must have broken about 10 lock picks and I am not out of the dungeon yet lol

I have the same mouse and the same problem with mouse lag on the picks. I think I'll temporarily reassign the left/right controls to the keyboard so I stand a chance on some of the harder locks. Anything harder than easy and I can't do it !!

Can you get a faster skill level up the more amour you have?

Say you have half heavy armour and the other half light then will you level up in both amour classes the same?.
If so, does it matter how much of one type of armour you have, could you have all heavy armour and just light armour bracers and get bonuses for both? Or does having just one piece of light armour make your skill go up very slowly.

Cheers.

Heheh I thought I'd hit the jackpot about 4 hours into my new charcter when I found an Elven Sword and a Glass sword locked behind very hard locks in the fighter's guildhouse and expended all of my lockpicks to find ...

... they are both damn replicas! D'oh!

/reload from save

LOL.

I was JUST about to go rob them. Thanks for the heads up

Ive noticed the trick to lockpicking, let me see if I can explain it.

If you tap the things up a few times you will notice that it will fall fast then slow, then fast then slow and so on.

Now when you try and lock it in place when it falls fast your just not going to do it, but if you try it when it falls slow you will crack it easy, this is why I can pick Very Hard locks with jack all skill in lock picking.

Pretty shallow really :(

Not sure if I explained it good there but what the hell :P
